Hi there folks
we're in the middle of setting up http://www.dgmlive.com/archive.htm?artist=1&show=1109 - a tribute page to Boz Burrell singer and bassist with King Crimson, who died yesterday.  The page  also features a remix of Ladies of the Road which was done for the Frame By Frame boxset but was unused.

It would be great if you could leave some of your thoughts, memories and observations about Boz over there as well as here.

Also there's http://www.dgmlive.com/news.htm?entry=566 - a news update about Boz's death which clarifies the earlier sketchy post when the news first broke

Very sad news indeed.  Islands is one of my favorite King Crimson albums.  I really enjoy Boz's bass and vocal contributions.

RIP! Cry

This is sad news, I must agree with other posters, that he was my favorite KC singer.

This makes Islands  a more poignant album.  Everyone should listen to Islands this weekend just as we all listned to Wish You Were Here when Syd Barret passed away.

RIP

Unhappy Sad to hear. He seems not to have suffered, though.

I wonder how old he was.

Rest In Peace.

I just checked and he was born in 1946, which means he passed away at 60.  Far too young. Cry

Not heard Islands yet but his passing is saddening to me, no one should die that young.

Does that make him the first KC member to die?

I just got a copy of Islands yesterday, and enjoyed it for the first time without knowing this. Wow...

Much sadness. He sounded most excellent.

Sad news. Islands was the first King Crimson album I heard, and what a great introduction it was.

Sad indeed.  But Islands remains my less favorite KC album, however.

Bass player Boz Burrell was a member of one of my favourite rock bands "Bad Company" with Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke and Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hoople), and managed by Peter Grant - formed from the ashes of Free they made some great albums - "Bad Company" 1974 debut,( included rock classic "Can't Get Enough"), "Straight Shooter", "Run With the Pack", "Burnin Sky","Rough Diamonds" and "Desolation Angels". Very sad he's gone to the GGITS.

Very sad news. Island is my favorite KC album and his singing was very emotional on Island (song). Lets hope he's on a better place now.

Not my favourite singer or bassit in KC... But definitely a very defining person for a specific moment in KC's history. The "Islands" album isn't one of my all-time KC faves either, but still I recognize a peculiar, moving beauty contained in it.

Burrell's passing means yet another sorry loss for the world of prog.

    REST IN PEACE, BOZ!!!

Icon, your question of why? You are wise to like prog at such a young age. But with all youth, the idea of mortality hasn't really set in yet. As you age, this sad reality of life will sink in. People get old, sick and eventually the body wears out and we die (duh!Embarrassed), that's why.Shocked Scary?, it can be, but reality.  And you are unique in the fact that most of your prog idols are much older than yourself, some 40 years older. Most people these days that are your age listen to pop garbage from artists only a few years older than themselves. I was lucky, because when I was your age, psychedelia and prog was the happening thing, and I was exposed to great music. You are also unique to have not followed the horrible mainstream path of pathetic pop music. You are wise to have gone out of the way to research and enjoy more artistic and much more interesting music. Remember and honor the legacy of these old prog school musicians. I'm not happy that these great musicians have left our world sooner than I'd like, but their good work and place in prog history is assured.Clap I used to think Boz was the worst musician King Crimson ever had. But since listening to many of the "live" KC Collector's Club releases with him on it, I changed my mind. Even though in his heart of hearts he was a rocker (Bad Co. proves it), his contributions to King Crimson were admirable. May he R.I.P.

Every individuals death is a tragedy, but I never respected his contribution to KING CRIMSON. I guess he fitted better in the other bands he was into. I'm still sorry to hear this news, and I'm sorry for his family and his friends. Unhappy

Some of his highlights as a KC member is his solid performance in tracks such as 'The Letters' and 'Cirkus', as registered in the official bootlegs that were released by DGM in the early 2000's. He should have been the lead singer in the "Lizard" album. I never got to listen to a live rendition of the beautiful, eerie 'Islands' ballad, but there he reveals his softer side as a vocalist, something unusual for an Englishman who had a deep kick for wild, raw American R'n'B.

   Kind regards.

Well I love the 70's albuns by KC, but I need to say that 'Islands' is the only one I dislike... Even 'Lizard' an album with an absent guitar (and I love this instrument) is a great work for me, but 'Islands'...Ermm

But, I'm really sad, because I like BAD COMPANY very much, and have all the Boz albuns with them.

Rest in peace Boz... You made a good job with these great bands...Clap

Recently i've been buying KC live albums, and my most two recent (Earthbound, Ladies Of The Road) featured Mr. Burrell. Always thought his voice had something special in it that made him different from all the other KC singers. Not my favorite, but still quite good.

Way too young.Ouch

Rest In Peace.

That's sad. He was the second best KC-singer IMHO. A unique and very english singing-style, and it suited "Islands" perfectly.

I always thought Islands was underrated by many people. It's a very mellow, beautiful album.

btw, does anyone know it was Fripp who taught Boz to play bass?? very interesting. Though I have tendency to take everything on the internet with a pinch of salt; this is proven by two sources: AMG and wikipedia http://www.answers.com/Boz%20Burrell - http://www.answers.com/Boz%20Burrell  also see wikipedia entry for King Crimson: http://www.answers.com/topic/king-crimson#Wikipedia - http://www.answers.com/topic/king-crimson#Wikipedia
(I haven't heard Bad Company, btw)
