I can tell you right now about half of them are going to be totally murdered in here, but who knows, maybe others have different opinions. My vote goes to Akerfeldt (BTW I love all these guitarists, so no hating)

Akerfeldt without a doubt.

Well, Akerfeldt is a more emotioal musivcan however, Pervian Skies" and "Lines in the Sand" and "Hollow Yaers" are pretty emotional solos.  Plus,
Hollow Years" was an acoustic solo which Petrucci fingerpicked.

Akerfeldt of those, but Arjen Lucassen or Karl Groom are more "emotional" than any of those, to me.

Two words: Jim Matheos.

Opeth is great an' all, but please listen to Fates Warning if you haven't yet. Their music is a priceless treasure. Actually, only Jim's two solo albums (First Impressions and Away with Words) are enough to make this an extremely easy choice.

I'd say Daniel Gildenlow/Johan Halgren (Halgren probably does more solo's than Gildenlow with PoS) just ahead of Jim Mateos and Petrucci.

Meh.. I've only heard enough Petrucci and Romeo to comment on them, but Romeo just blows me away with his style.

No love for Adam JonesCry

Yes, I know he rarely solos, especially "emotional ones" but I couldn't think of any other more common prog metal bands

Romeo actually has votes?

I'll take Gildenlow, but Akerfeldt isn't far behind.

Akerfeldt is god. He plays with such passion and emotion, he's got some amazing solos.

Petrucci plays with absolutely no emotion!!! (One of the main reasons I hate DT, just a bunch of guitar-w**king on speed)

I'm tossed up between Aketfedt and Gildenlow/Halgren. Listening to just about all Opeth solos gives me the chills, they're so well-placed and fitting! Then I listen to The Perfect Element (song) and I am captivated by the guitar solo at the end. It's only about 12 measures but it's probably my favorite prog metal solo.

Petrucci is an amazing technical guitarist, but as a few great emotional solos. (lightbuld sun you need to listen to more DT if you think it's all guitar solos ie. Images and Words there are very little song solos). Romeo is also just a technical as Jp, but is more classical and personally I'm not a fan of his solos. I've yet to hear the others.
