Crucis, Espíritu, and my favourite: NEXUS (I saw them playing last Thursday). They were AMAZING. They are our "Japanese-sounding ELP".
They should play more often. I can't wait until their next concert!!!
I took a friend with me to the concert and NEXUS did in one hour and fifteen minutes what I couldn´t do in many years: now he hates songs with stupid lyrics (very common in my country) and he loves keyboards.
Lalo Huber was just incredible playing his seven keyboards. He was like an octopus. And Carlos Lucena is a great guitar player, too.

btw. i would be happy to switch places too, you know

HT, I knew you were a great guy, but I didn't know you were a fellow BOC fan...
As for me, I think there is a whole subgenre on this site dedicated to Italian bands... The interest and love those bands, especially those who were active in the Seventies, command from people who've never even seen Italy from afar (are you listening here, Micky and Jody?) are reason enough to be proud of all of them - even though, on a personal level, I tend to listen to bands from English-speaking countries than homegrown ones.

you'd have to exclude Brits, Americans and Germans my friend
so far none of them posted, anyway!
hmmmmmmmm; what will hapen to "Multinatinoal" bands?!?!? who may list them?
my country is very barren, unfortunately. I can name a couple of names who at one time or another went into prog.. (not all output by these acts are prog. most turned towards pop after '80's...)
Mogollar
Baris Manco
Cem Karaca
Erkin Koray
Murat Ses
(I had to eliminate TUrkish special characters, otherwise they won't show... for those who are interested high-quality in Turkish folk prog, the first and last names are essential. Murat Ses was Mogollar's keyboardist for their first 5 years anyway. In early nineties he went on to explore electronic music. may not be definitive, but surely interesting works. He's a hell of a keyboardist btw)

Try to write fully, my friend! Though I've been "learning" English since I was 12 (I'm 32 btw!) it's not my native language, and I can't always get what you mean
what I'm "wafflin'" is: there are so many English, German and American bands, and most of them are so well known that they won't have to advertise them here besides, bands like Genesis (at least PG period), Yes, King Crimson, ELP are everyone's favorite... (maybe I should've mentioned Britain only )
about holidays: many prefer southern region for sun+sea combination, but I've been there twice, and I gave up! (seriously, I won't go there even if someone pays me! It's so hot. besides, they always overcharge...) if you're not interested in sunbathing and swimming, come down here (Istanbul). It is one of the major cities of the world (once capital of Roman Empire), you will find plenty of interesting things to see & to do (maybe not exciting as New York, but still fine)

I'm not a native speaker, but I have near-native competence (I have two English-related degrees). I lived in Finland for almost six years, otherwise I've always lived in Italy.
Back IT, in the Prog Polls section there is an ongoing debate on whether the Italian prog movement of the Seventies should have its own subgenre. I opened the poll myself, not out of patriotic pride, but rather on the basis of the huge popularity of such bands and artists with people from completely different backgrounds. It does seem that Italian prog has some sort of appeal on listeners from all over the world... which in a way is flattering, seen as Italy has always boasted of a rich musical heritage.

I'm not going to get into the debate in the said thread, but I agree with you. I only heard a couple of bands from italy, and in their heyday (1972-1977) the style is really "something else"... I also mentioned this somewhere else... anyway, the thing is, though Genesis influence is obvious, they really had created their peculiar style. That's why PA devoted an entire genre to it in the first place. What could be expected from sons of Vivaldi and Paganini ?

I've heard of them, but I don't have an album by them as of yet. There's also a folk prog band called Asi Somos and I have their debut album. I'm having problems getting in their web page. http://www.grupoasisomos.com/ - http://www.grupoasisomos.com/
You might be hearing them later in the day.

I am enormously proud of British Prog bands, although sadly because most people here are glued to the BBC they only think anything worth listening to is in that- extremely small - sphere. Genesis is very well known and is a national institution, the same for Rick Wakeman, but having secured a ticket for Porcupine Tree ( i am understandably excited) i mentioned i was seeing them to many people, but no-one had even heard of them! When i mention Prog they go "oooohhh....." no interest at all. If they started playing Prog music on the BBC TV or on adverts on the other channels there would be many i'm sure who would "discover" it. All we hear is Robbie Williams, Madonna or Rap, or "Britpop Awards"with not one Prog band. There is a huge "silent" majority here i'm sure who enjoy Prog, many on PA, though i have mixed feelings about Prog being "popular" of course, i'd love the British groups old and new to get a little more respect from their own people!!
