To celebrate the release of Amputechture, and the ability to speak of it without being flamed now that it has been officially released, I give you this poll.

I currently regard Amputecthure as the best, but I will listen to them all before I vote. I'm not entirely sure...

I'm really not feeling Amputechture yet. It has some awesome
moments, but it sounds as if they were all put in a blender and burned
on to the CD. De-loused and Frances had flow, Amputechture has
too many random transitions between and inside songs.
Frances will always be my favorite because it was the first one I heard.

Where is the "I just cannot get this band!" option?

Oh whatta hell! I pick Amputechture. Volta keep expanding their sound, and the adding of brass instruments fits very nicely.

Don't you think this is too early to vote? I mean Amputechture just came out today.

Amputechture!
They just keep getting better and better. I always wanted to know what it would feel like to witness the growth of a great band in the scale of Genesis and Yes in the seventies. It seems that with The Mars Volta I'm getting what I wished for. I can't wait to see what they will do next.

DELOUSED!!!!!!
They're all good, but Deloused was more focused than these last two. I also wish they would progress a bit more with their sound. They obviously have tons of talent and potential, but 3 albums of bombastic noodlish w**kery is enough, they should experiment with something else for a while.

Amputechture is amazing... and this is coming from someone who up until hearing Amputechture for the first time yesterday, derided everything TMV laid hands on. Can't stand their past albums, but this new one is rocking my world! Excellent, excellent, excellent album.

I'm just not "getting" Amputechture. Deloused for me, by far their most cohesive album, IMO.

Please don't! I've just played some to my 18 year old son, who is training to be a a musician, and his comment was "turn that crap off, it's an absolutely horrible racket" so it's not just me. TMV polarise opinion. I'm pleased you love them. But I don't.

They had quite a lot of brass on Frances too (Miranda and Cassandra in particular ).
De-loused suffers from a slight "sameness" problem - it's soometimes hard for me to distinguish a song from another. It's cohesive and a convincing punch in the face, but it's not as multitextured as the following two.
I've listened to Amputechture pretty intensely and... yes, it's... it's extremely good, I mean... it's everything you would expect and more, and it can either give you a headache or leave you mesmerized and wanting to hear it again and again (or both). But I just can't seem to like it as much as Frances.
Songs like "Meccamputechture" and "Viscera Eyes" and even "Tetragrammaton" after a while are a bit too linear, which can become observable after a few listens. Not much chord variation or rhythm changes in them, although they add layers and layers of things by the end of the song. I see that as a small fault of the album, whereas in my book Frances is the perfect example of an album that is anything but linear.
Right now, Frances has literally everything I can dream I want to listen to in the course of one album, so I choose it as my favourite. Still, Amputechture is definitely the best of 2006 so far and a wonderful experience to have.

Amputechture.
I got it today after school, went into my room and blasted it.
My conclusion: Deloused and Frances are just warm ups for this beast.

I accidently voted Amputecture when I meant to vote for Deloused.
The new album is far from perfect, but I love the direction they're going in. If they continue to make songs as great as "Day Of The Baphomets", their next album could be their masterpiece.

I've only heard Amputechture once since I bought it earlier today. Maybe when I give it some more listens I'll make my vote.

Amputechture, and not cause it just came out (had it for some time now, gonna buy it tomorrow) or because im some hardcore TMV freak; i do enjoy them quite a bit. however i chose their latest because after re-listening to their catalouge thus far, Amputechture has just overall better material and shows a very good direction for the band. at first few listens it overwhelmed me, i heard good parts here and there but i didnt understand the connections in each song, except Viscera Eyes, i got into that one right away. now i that i understand the album, it's just a monster of an album and is definitly essential, which i dont think too many albums these days are, unfortunately.

Deloused for me. Not a hard choice since it's the only release I have and have heard from them. I will definitely be buying their two other studio albums though. It took a few spins to get into them and I like them more and more with each spin.

Wow, I can't believe Amputechture has such a lock on this. I'm just
giving it my first listen so I'll wait to vote, but disregarding
Amputechture I'd pick Frances The Mute.

I am not sure how long the average poster has been listening to ampuctechture, but I have listened to it three times through, and I thing you are crazy to put it above Deloused in the Comatorium.
Deloused is a masterpiece.

Frances the Mute gets my vote. When I really concentrated and listened
to it in detail, I finally realised its status as a masterpiece.

How you can make a judgement like that after one day of having it is beyond me.
Deloused, for me, is by far their best album. I think their "punk" sound fits them more aptly and works much better for them than say "Viscera Eyes" which is a decent but not really entertaining attempt at being Pink Floyd.
