I've just returned from a weekend in the Peak District. A bunch of us go on a walking weekend every year and this year we were in Buxton, Derbyshire. We always find a suitable venue for a sing-song in the evening, usually we muddle through a mixture of folk standards such as The Manchester Rambler interspersed with a few classics such as Brown Eyed Girl and I'm a Believer. This year someone asked if we did requests and then asked for some Pink Floyd. I think she mistook us for real musicians. Anyway, we managed a slightly dodgy rendition of "Time" but fortunately I had the music to "Wish You Were Here" with me - we managed to get most of the pub singing along with us. It was quite a moment. You see, prog can be popular with the masses!!!
And I found a book shop in Bakewell with a prog CD section!!!!

well done, Alan, i like playing"wish you were here" (wish i was there!!), i was gearing myself up for a public performance last year at a local "get up an' play" venue but the pub closed down.....must've known i was coming!! another "fest" i declined when i found out they allowed "wannabes" to play after the punters were so drunk they didn't care what they heard - on second thoughts that would have suited me fine!

Thanks. "the punters were so drunk they didn't care what they heard" - that nicely sums up our audience last night!
