Well, it's September, and that means pennant fever! Who here likes baseball? What's your favorite team?!

I've bled orange and black since 1993 (see signature).  They've been a frustrating team to follow this year, but I'd sooner jump off the Golden Gate Bridge before acknowledging something positive about the DodgersDead

Growing up in Baltimore I am a huge Orioles fan.I practically grew up in Memorial Stadium and am a regular season ticket buyer at Camden Yards.

This city loves the O's and there is a big debate going on right now over owner Peter Angelos and the way he is running the team into the ground. He keeps on promising to expand the payroll and bring in some high profile and big name free agents but never does.

We need pitching BAD!!!!!!!!!

Once upon a time in Montreal, there lived a great baseball team called The Expos.  In the early nineties, The Expos were leading and were almost sure to win the series, which probably pissed off our southern red white and blue neighbors, enough to call the season off and stop a Canadian team from winning America's most coveted prize.  Montreal never recovered, the Olympic Stadium gradually emptied itself, star players went elsewhere and finally, The Expos moved to an American city.

Which is why we no longer give a sh!t about baseball up here...

Thumbs Down

p.s.: same thing happened with Quebec City and the Nordiques, who became the Colorado Avalanche and won the Stanley Cup the year they moved...

Dude. The Toronto Blue Jays won two World Series in the nineties—1992 and 1993.  I would've loved to see Les Expos win the NL East division in 1994, if for no other reason than to keep the Braves from winning the NL East.  As it was, the season was called due to Strike and Atlanta's ridiculous streak of winning their division for a gazillion straight years was kept intact.  As a Giants fan, I still had a grudge against the Braves from 1993, when the Giants had won 103 games (!) and still couldn't reach the playoffs because of those confounded Braves.

Everybody was hurt by 1994's strike.  It wasn't until McGwire and Sosa were chasing Roger Maris' original single-season home run record in 1998 when baseball really recovered—Toronto included.  But the fans never returned in Montreal, and as a result, a lack of revenue eventually forced the team to be sold to Major League Baseball.  The league, obviously wanting to turn around the downtrodden franchise, was FINALLY able to move it to Washington, and a team that was left for dead was given new life.

It must have been a sad day for Montreal to see the Expos leave, but the franchise was stuck in a downward spiral of low payroll and low quality performance.  I can't claim to know what the culture is like in Montreal, but it was clear the fans were never coming back.

A lot of great players came out of the Expos' farm system:  Larry Walker, Pedro Martinez, Vladimir Guererro... and the current Giants manager, Felipe Alou, used to manage up there too.

Indeed, a very sad day.  The strike killed our love for baseball with one swift blow.  But on the other hand, we can now concentrate on hockey, and I for one can hardly wait for the next season to begin.

Being from Chicago I'm a White Sox fan.  It was great to see them win last season.

This year, they need to straighten sh*t out.

It was a very sad for me. I was a huge Expos fan in my childhood and in their last 2 years of existence, I've attended A LOT of games to catch the most of my beloved team before they disappear forever.

I had great tickets for the very last game at the Olympic Stadium and it was pretty emotional...

BS.To actually insinuate that a baseball strike was caused so a Canadian baseball team wouldn't win the WS is ridiculous.

Ever heard of the Toronto Blue Jays?

They are Canadian and have won 2 World Series.

And the fans in Montreal are partially to blame for them leaving, they weren't exactly shown much support in their last few years there, playing games in a stadium that was nearly empty.Blame them leaving on you guys, not the US.

Another damn No Cal! Angry I told Tony to keep you guys out of here.  LOL

As for the Dodgers if they can't figure away to keep away form this streaky nature they are done and then the Lo Cals get the division.

What are you talking about! Jump ship! They are finally good again. I have been a Tiger fan my whole life. The good seasons don't come that often, but when they do ...

I am also a Cub fan. That started even before I lived in Chicago. So, I am not used to jumping ship at all.

I'm a Met fan. And what a double header today against the Braves. 4-1, and 8-0. Green finally shows us why we picked 'em up as he gets 2 homers, and Reyes amazing as always as he pops one out first pitch of the game.

It's a good time to be a MET fan. Cool

Now that the Red Sox and White Sox have finally won World Series, the Cubs and now the GIANTS (Cry) are the resident heartbreakers of baseball.

I'll give you some examples:

Before the 2004 season, Giants GM Brian Sabean makes a deal to send pitchers Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser, and Francisco Liriano to the Twins for catcher AJ Pierzynski.  Joe Nathan turns into an All-Star closer for the Twins, Francisco Liriano becomes the best rookie pitcher this season (12-3 before an injury to shorten his year), and the Twins don't feel Pierzynski's absence behind the dish thanks to the emergence of Joe Mauer, who still leads the AL in batting average this year.  For the Giants, Pierzynski had a very poor season both with the glove and with the bat, and ran into trouble with the fans and other players with his terrible attitude, and it was clear his effort level was low by the end of the season.  That was his one and only season with the Giants.  AJ Pierzynski = DeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDeadDead

2002 World Series, Game 6, the Giants leading the series 3 games to 2.  The Giants were up 5-0 in the eighth.  Then Scott f**king Spezio hits a three-run homer, Angels take the lead, win Game 6 and then Game 7.CryCryCryCryCry

1998 season.  Former Giant Rod Beck closes out a one-game playoff against the Giants.  Cubs win the NL Wild Card, Giants go home.

2004 Season.  Steve Finley eliminates the Giants with a walk-off grand slam, Dodgers win 7-3 after the Giants enter the ninth up 3-0.

1993.  Giants fail to reach the playoffs despite winning 103 games.  Atlanta Braves win 104, winning the NL West.  The Giants become the reason Bud Selig instills the Wild Card.

I could come up with more.  Suffice to say, I feel your pain.

Oh come on.  The Giants have been to 2-3 world sieres in the last 15 years even though they lost.  The Cubs haven't even gone since 1917 or some such grief.  Don't try and measure up to that.  Until the Angels beat you they hadn't been to a World Series either in their 40+ years of existence.  The Giants have bben to about 4-5 in that time.  Maybe you should become an A's fan they seem to have done better. Wink

Blasphemy!  Actually, I used to be somewhat of an A's fan as well as a Giants fan, but eventually my loyalties just kind of fell into one place.

One of my first memories was the 1989 earthquake just before the World Series between the Giants and the A's... I was 4 at the time!
