I love them, they are one of my favorite bands ever, and I think that all this DT poll madness is giving this amazong band a bad name. It also gives a groung for hates to bash them and turn people who don't even know DT off from listening to the band. Sorry DT Everyone: ENOUGH ALREADY!!! I couldn't agree more. I love DT, and I also like talking about them, but I'm sick of seeing the DT bashers out in full force. Take away their provisions and they will shrink up into little, humble masses with nothing to talk about. But give them a DT poll and BAM!葉hey live to hate another day. It's amazing how highly scrutinized DT seems to be compared to the other prog giants on this site. Definitely the scapegoats of PA.  -------------

There's probably a reason for that, just a hunch When you have a group of 5 very talented musicians(don't get me wrong, they are definitely good at their instruments) sometimes that doesn't work for a group and composing good songs. ------------- back from the dead, i will begin posting reviews again and musing through the forums |

I love DT, They're one of my favorite Prog-Metal bands. And yes, Im sick of all these DT polls. It have gone so overboard lately that Im nearly getting pissed off everytime I hear the name Dream Theater here in the forums. Stop all these polls! I'm sorry. I just disagree with this. There are plenty of bands out there who can play the hell out of their instruments. Dream Theater can play the hell out of their instruments AND compose excellent songs. There's no way they'd be garnering so much attention if they weren't great songwriters in addition to their instrumental pyrotechnics. You've just got to ask yourself: why are you here in a DT poll? Are you here to be negative to bash everything, or do you actually care about the topic in question? All the DT bashers should know this: trashing DT is perpetuating the attention towards DT that you so despise. Nobody wants this. Give it a rest. -------------

I'm more annoyed by polls about polls.
I don't understand why people who are sick of DT polls waste their time on participating on an obvious DT poll as this poll obviouly is.

No, they can't compose excellent songs. That's why a large number of people don't like them, because they are of the opinion they are not very good songwriters. Sure they can write a riff in 9/8 time and do a crazy solo but that doens't make anything worth listening to. They get attention becuase of their ability to play their instruments and the fact that they sometimes are "circusy" with their music. And I made the poll, so don't ask why I'm here. Don't assume anything either. I didn't trash the band per se until this post, becuase you went out of your way to make it look like I am some sort of d*ckhead. The majority of DT polls are being made by the fans, not the "bashers". Xtopher does have a point, the DT bashers do seem to come out in force whenever there is a DT thread/poll (though I dont mind Ghost Rider and Miky as their posts are fun to read ) but a lot of the polls made by fans seem to get worse and worse, as well as meaningless and unoriginal.------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

The point is he was using me as a scapegoat for w/e reasoning he wanted to have, when I had little to do with the issue. However, if there's 100 polls and 50 of them are DT, then what else do you have to respond to as a forum member? I would like to either propose a permanent ban on the creation of new DT polls or have a separate forum for all the DT polls that way other members do not have to sift through them. ------------- back from the dead, i will begin posting reviews again and musing through the forums |

You misunderstand me. My first paragraph was directed towards you, my second paragraph was towards everyone. I should've specified that. You are of the mind that DT can't write songs, and only get all their attention through being "circusy" with their music. I'm paraphrasing; excuse me. But there's a reason I like listening to DT more than I like listening to Yngwie Malmsteen or Symphony X (although I like them too); and it has to do with DT being more dynamic and better overall songwriters. There's no way I'd be wasting my time with DT if I didn't think their songwriting skills are, in fact, extraordinary. It's fine to hold your own opinion. You have yours and I have mine. Now again, my second paragraph (the one with the magnified font) was for everyone. Again, I apologize for failing to point this out. You're right, the majority of the DT polls are made by the fans. Not me, personally; I've never started a DT thread of any sort. Hey, I mean, I like talking about DT. But I'm sick of seeing polls about them because it just clears the path for the flames. And think about it: if the people who don't like DT but who complain about all the DT polls could just help themselves by abstaining to all these polls, think how much less attention DT would get. No more DT polls, no more brainless DT zealousness, no more brainless DT bashing. Everybody wins. -------------

The dissing of Dream Theater is far worse than the Dream Theater threads.
I bet that if I turned to the Prog Polls section right now, there will be more Yes, Genesis, Tool, or Porcupine Tree threads than Dream Theater threads.

Isn't it ironic that this in and of itself is a DT based poll? Anyways, I'm getting sick of the polls as well, and they're like my favorite band, whom I surprisingly don't listen to for technical virtuosity  And as far as the Symphonic Team, I don't care, go ahead, bash away, its funny as hell! everyone's entitled to their opinion. However, when serious, angry debates erupt between people ignited by needless polls, it just pisses me off. There's enough fighting in this world, we don't need more -------------

The problem with most polls is that they are inevitable meaningless.
ussualy it's comparing apples with strawberries, oranges, lemons and lions.
too many choices, which share no common ground.
not always it's the poll that makes it meaningless, it's the participants that stray away from the topic subject rendering the poll meaningless. When the poll's subject is which DT album is the best, why should people not liking DT participate in such a poll
since they don't like DT who cares about their opinion regarding DT's bets album.
Let people who like DT use such a poll for what it is for, helping people not knowing the band make a good choice in what album they should start listening too in order to helpo them decide whether they like the band or not.

My goodness, I've never understood why people bash on DT so much. Yes they are polled on way too much. And polling on the being polled on is kind of a different step. But while everyone bashes on DT, whom I love, why don't we spend time and bash on other bands. I know I'll get killed for this, or at least verbally abused, but what about Yes? Let's bash on Yes! Post millions and millions of polls and say how crappy they are when they sold out at a certain point and lost all abilities to make a good album. Oh but wait, 99.9 percent of the people on this site love Yes, so that would just be suicide. While DT hasn't sold out yet, sure they've fallen into a groove, but they've still got variety at the least, Don't get me wrong though, I do enjoy Yes, I love Close to the Edge and some of their other works, but it bugs me how a capable band that puts out good music and hasn't died and is still going strong in 20 years of history is so bashed on, while other bands that did die out aren't being bashed on. Unless I'm looking in the wrong places, I noticed everyone here is Yes/Genesis/Pink Floyd/Rush/King Crimson, and no one else! ------------- I once was cool, but now I'm cold. Can you please turn up the heat. |

I love voting for the same stuff all the time, why whuld i come to this site otherwise? but DT polls are not the problem its all thos boring genesis fanboys makeing the same sucky genesis polls every week. But since genesis seem to be the only prog band that ever excisted in some peoples mind i gues we have to live with it. -------------

You have to give up... DT is one of the most popular bads out there... We have many new members each week... some of them are DT fans... when you're new, you love to create polls, say, as to see where you're standing compared to other members.... ERGO, some new DT polls will appear every week....
At least DT polls are created by a multitude of members... Now Jethro Tull polls, I'd say every one of the 15768 of them have been created by the SAME member...
