This movie does for rock and roll what "The Sound of Music" did for hills.

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. (well...it's funny that it was ever made )

Sid and Nancy. (Oldman's a freakin' genius!)

Rock and Roll High School. (good call, newbie! )

Heavy Metal. ("Don't worry...I've got an angle!" )

Crossroads. (inspiring when I was 13, now I find it hilarious)

River's Edge. (forget John Hughes, this is what my teen years were like).

Well talking only about movies, not concerts, historical documentals of a determined band or publicity DVD's:

  1. Tommy: The music plus the excellent concept made of this movie a classic.
  2. Liztomania: Rick Wakeman and Roger Dañltrey together.
  3. Jesus Christ Superstar
  4. Help (Stupid plot but funny)
  5. Quadrophenia

Excuse me Ivan... but ELP's Rock n Roll Your Eyes was released here in the States as a movie.. at movie theaters... I saw it at the Loews Theater on 57th St. in  1975.  It started so well... until all those psychadelic and cartoon characters kept blocking my view of Greg.. that was downright disappointing....

Was anyone as disappointed by the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus as I was? There were some great moments but it was only an hour long movie, it had "singing" by Yoko Ono, and the Stones performance was atrocious. It is worth it for three parts, Jethro Tull,  The Who, And the Dirty Mac before Yoko Ono came on.  But I highly reccommend Isle of Whight Festival as an alternative It has its share of bad music (Tiny Tim, Kris Kristofferson, Leonard Cohen) but it has the last performance of Jim Morrison and it has the Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, ELP, The Who, Hendrix,Joan Baez and others

Spinal Tap is the rock movie to end all rock movies.

Stop Making Sense  is another classic concert movie.

Don't Look Back is one of the few rockumentaries it's possible to take seriously.

I also have a soft spot for Tommy - I saw it at an impressionable age.

You've started early for New Years, I gather...

Actually 3B Theater does a great job of dissemilating the movie "Head".. I especially like the critic's comments at the bottom...

HEAD is one strange film. The newspaper advertisements for it asked, "What is HEAD?" And the answer is? I’m not sure.

It really isn’t a film -- but a stream of consciousness, or random thoughts patched together. I think it could be best described as channel surfing when there's nothing on. You stick around long enough to see that you don't want to watch it and move on; but here, the Monkees have their fingers on the remote.

HEAD borders dangerously close on being too pretentious for its on good.

Hmmm... too pretentious... no wonder I sort of like this movie....

Back then, "pray" = please tell me, or I wonder, I beg to know, etc.Geek

"Que" is Spanish for "what," and indicated that I did not understand your post about the chimpanzee's "head and shoulders." (I still don't.)Confused

Monkeys and apes are all primates, but the former are distinguished from the latter by virtue of their having tails. That's all -- Reed took it in the spirit it was intended: some good-natured, nit-picking pedantry.Smile

Peter...if that is your real name...we are not in the 19th century...we are in the 21st. In the USA pray means prayer....not the way Reed wrote it out.

I knew that Que meant what and that is why I had wondered why you said it when your native language (being a canuck and all) was french or english.

That's a nice film, with some really atmospheric (if slightly faked) footage of "Stillwater"

My top 6:

1. Spinal Tap

2. Woodstock

3. Head

4. Live at Pompeii (don't tell me it's not a movie, coz I don't care!)

5. Jesus Christ Superstar

6. Pressure Points - Camel (again, I don't care if it's not a "movie" - it's a brilliant video concept, plus it's an hour of Camel on the screen - what more could you ask for?)

7. A Hard Day's Night

8. The Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle

9. The Wall (too long, otherwise it'd be higher)

10. Bad News on Tour (not a real movie, yadda, yadda...)
