I quit three years ago. A middle-aged english woman with big hair and big glasses
hypnotized me to stop.

Cigs invented by Lucifer.  They are so cool, so satisfying, and such a pleasure.  And so deadly and addictive and offensive to others.  I am currently a non-smoker, having quit a year ago this month, but not a day goes by when I fail to have the urge to buy a pack....

I have quit for 6 months now. I read a great book by Alan Carr on how to stop smoking, that really helped me.
Actually cigarettes don´t have a taste (Remember your first smoke?)
It´s just drug addiction.

I rarely smoke. Though sometimes I smoke a couple of cigarettes on a friday or staurday night with some friends. On parties, I smoke a bit more, but otherwise, nah. I LOVE cigars though Big smile

I used to smoke about a pack and 1/2 a day. After I stopped drinking, my consumption went way down. I quit completely about two years ago. I still enjoy a good cigar, but I only smoke about one, or two, a week. Cigs are are a tough one to kick. I would suggest using tactics similar to beating any addiction. Primarily, staying away from those that are smoking. Also, don't let your friends smoke in front of you.

Though I've never smoked, I dread to think how much I cigarette smoke I have inhaled through passive smoking. Sitting on the top deck of buses, drinking in the pub with friends, even in a working environment.

Thankfully, Scotland has now banned smoking in all enclosed public places. What a difference.

I have smoked since 14,and average a pack a day.It is basically my only vice.I quit last year for about 7-8 months but recent events in my personal life have caused me to start again.

And I agree with Guigo, that first cigarette of the day along with your first cup of coffee is incomparable.

I tried a year ago or so and it made me sick so I never plan to do it again.  It's a pretty nasty habbit, and an expensive one at that (I'd rather get 2-3 more CDs a week then a pack a day).

I used to smoke 60 a day. That was just on an average day. If I went out in the evening to the pub it would hit 90 and if I went to a club later I could add another 20.

I gave up over 7 years ago and havent touched one since.

I have, however, put on nearly 4 STONE in weight....so instead of dying of lung cancer I will now expire through heart disease....

Weed doesn't really smell that good either, but I assure you that sitting beside a heavy smoker on a bus isn't nice at all. They do smell, and they smell really bad. Far worse than weed!

On average, 5-10 a day (but I don't count if at the pub, at festivals or at a club); not a good habit, I admit - I'd like to think one day I'll give up, but I've still got a load of tobacco I bought back from holiday, so that'd be a waste of money

I once gave up for 3 yrs.................back on them for the last 10 yrs or so.......... it goes up and down, my partner gave up 2 1/2 yrs ago and I see the benefits he has, although he still longs for one! He was a fairly heavy smoker, I am down to 5- 10 a day like Jim. (although like Tony R, a night out can add quite a lot to that!!! )
That first one with your first cuppa is great, also after a meal with friends and wine, sat back from the table...........bliss!

I havn't smoked indoors for years, and am now contemplating hypno therapy after many failed quit attempts.
I know it stinks, I know it's not healthy. Most of my daily smokes I don't really enjoy, it's something that I do, but there are one or two a day that I really, really enjoy!

Nasty habit tho, DON'T START!

I have always been active, but I see the difference now, when I am surfing with my buddies, I run out of puff on the paddle long before they do, and that's BAD!

True, very true. I guess that was why the anti-smoking advocates decided to use some of the same tactics. It just really bothers me when anyone makes a claim that is supposed to be backed up by evidence, and in actuality it isn't (ie: the Bush Administration).

I have no clue when it comes to the whole second hand smoke thing...but I pray that it DOSN'T cause much harm. I used to stop and chat everyday with a friend of mine who smoked, there would be wiffs of smoke coming out of my mouth when I spoke. lol

I have smoked since I was 16 an average about 10-15 cigarettes per day. I quit for good on 1 may 2004, after reading (don't laugh at me!) a book called "Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by certain J. Carr. I know, it sounds rediculous, but anyway, I don't and never will smoke again anything (not only tobacco) because it makes me disgust. You call it auto-suggestion, placebo, willpower, faith or whatever but it helped me. Lamp

As I was a child, I tried a cigarette and I nearly puked. LOL

But that that doesn't count, right? WinkBig smile

But since that day, I have never smoked any cigarette again and I'm sure I won't do it again in my life...

Anyway, I also don't drink more than one or two beers...

Why all that? Because drugs are bad! LOL (no seriously guys, that's the truthStern Smile)

I'm afraid I'm sadder than you - I'm 43, and was a vehement anti smoker until aged 25, when I started one night through boredom (long story...); probably the worst decision I ever made in my life!

Actually, as it's lunchtime & sunny, I think I'll just nip out of the office for a few minutes...

I used to smoke but quit, now I see how stupid it was (no offence smokers Big smile)
It wasnt healthy for myself and the people around me, all my clothes smelled awful, and cigs are pretty expensive here as well, so you need a job if you want to smoke haha! LOL

I don't buy them, but if I am with people and they are free, then I sometimes go for it. I prefer cloves to tobacco, well pretty much anything to tobacco really.
