I bought The Dark Third by PRR recently and am still trying to get to total grips with it.

Teaflax is the big PRR fan though.

I wasn't really blown away by the last Secret Machines album ... but it's nice. Haven't heard the other two bands ...

Don't bother with Mew either!

Pure Reason Revolution are very good, though, and the Dungen album is cool - but psychedelia rather than Prog Rock.

A friend of mine showed me Mew about a year ago... pretty fun band, but I didn't really find anything proggy at all in the songs he gave me... maybe I'll have to look at them more in-depth I guess? In terms of ambitiousness and their general attitude towards music and the way the present it, though, I'd say a band who Mew recently opened for - Broken Social Scene - could definitely be considered "new prog" by the open-minded.

EDIT: Actually, listening to more of Mew's stuff, I can hear the prog influences, and I'm liking it more than the other songs I heard, too. Forgot to mention before, a lot of the time they remind me a lot of Jaga Jazzist, so anybody who likes that band should definitely check them out.

This is one of bands I'd just become exposed to that really caught my ear. Good stuff! Big smile

I have to agree on this too. I find PRR to be one very promising band and their album The dark third proves it.

Yeah! Good call (but I have the US version of the Dark Third... it's slightly different than the album tracks listed on this site).
