The power metal band (listed here in PA) Rhapsody has issued this about their change of name:

(taken from http://www.rhapsodyoffire.com/)

Due to copyright and trademark issues the band formerly known as Rhapsody has changed its name. The band members consider this a great new start, reflecting the emboldened and increasingly grandiose direction that their music has taken. “The power of the dragonflame will burn brighter than ever before,” says guitarist/songwriter Luca Turilli. Keyboardist/songwriter Alex Staropoli adds, “The name Rhapsody Of Fire better represents the energy that has always been present in this band and its music.”

With a new record company in Magic Circle Music, a new tour planned and a new album on the way, Rhapsody Of Fire will continue to explore musical fantasy worlds with the precision musicianship and unique symphonic concepts that their fans have come to expect and adore. Fresh on the heels of the band’s first live album release, Live In Canada 2005 - The Dark Secret, a new name and renewed vigor ensure that Rhapsody Of Fire still hold the passion and power that have always been associated with their music.

I do not understand because a band should change name if then continuous to do what already did. Different they had been the cases in the 70's.
The Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso it is reelected Banco because themeselves put to do POP, so like the Gleemen changed name in Garybaldi when decided do music more Prog. The PFM  arrived at this name for problems with the label (but today with the mergers of label does not exist more, for them, this problem). Other cases there are but is not the case of continue (for ex. Etna/ Flea/ Flea On The Honey...). Already I did not follow the Rhapsody (I have alone "Symphony Of Enchanted Lake"),  now that change name for motive that said... I believe that serious group should not change the name for these motive. Different it was the case of Norwegian Popol Vuh become Popol Ace to avoid the tribunal with the homonymous Gernan band. If this is reliability...

Mandrakeroot, read again what they wrote. It is due to legal matters, not a change of sound.

It's not really a change of name ... they merely added "of Fire" to their name. Clearly for legal reasons, and if anything it only reconfirms their style: cheesy, cliché power metal.LOL

^ I didn't mean to bash them - I enjoy listening to their music. I also think that it's quite progressive in many aspects - although even the most die-hard fans must admit that they didn't evolve much during their musical career.

But they ARE cheesy ... and maybe a name like "Rhapsody of Cheese" would have been more adequate.LOL

100% cheese indeed! "Symphonic epic Holywood metal" by their own description.

I agree about the cheese factor. I only have one of their albums (Symphony of Enchanted Lands II) but I actually enjoy it a great deal from time to time. It's actually, like, the first cheese band I can look past and enjoy. Hmm.

Alright, I changed the name of their entry on the archives. I also noticed a bio has never been written for them... even though they're pretty well-known. Is the Prog Metal-team on top of this? Tongue

Joren, I would leave their name on the archives as it is seeing as how all their previous albums were still released under the name Rhapsody.  Maybe a new entry should be made once they release something under this name, sort of like how we have seperate entries for Samla Mammas Manna and Zamla Mannaz Manna despite them being the same band.

I agree Bryan, all their albums to date are recorded by "Rhapsody".
Perhaps their name shoudl be "Rhapsody (AKA Rhapsody of fire)"

O ok. Well I did this because I took Popol Vuh / Popol Ace as an example. Anyway, I changed it back so it'll just be "Rhapsody" until we have a solution.

I think the "(aka Rhapsody Of Dire)" idea is a good one.Maybe a note added at the end of the Bio:
"Due to copyright and trademark issues the band changed its name to Rhapsody Of Dire in 2006."

"the power of the dragonfire will burn brighter than ever before." LOL

That has to be the Cheesiest thing I have ever heard. These guys need to get a life away from dragons and elves. (quotes Dream Theater song Voices) "This neverworld which you desire is only in your mind".

a lot of prog is cheesy", like a lot classical and jazz. Beetovan's (excuse the spelling) 5th symphony (Da Da Da Dah) or John Coltrane's A Love Supreme are some of the most "cheesiest" works around .

I listen to music for enjoyment, simple as that.

Give me elves, trolls, dragons etc, so long as they fit well with terrific symphonic epic music.

Like Manowar, another "Cheesy" band (beware of false metal), Rhasody appear to sincerely enjoy what they are doing, and are not just in it for the money.

They claim, prog is self indulgent and pretentious. Sorry, it is folk, punk, certain rap, and rock bands that put their lyrics ahead the music that are self indulgent and pretentious, and rip off the audience by playing lousy music.

That said, you want to listen to "cheese", go listen to punk, folk or rap, or go pay 200 dollars, or 400 pounds/euros to listen to a U2 or Springsteen concert to hear about stuff you read in newspaper or any university/college

Well, Mike, Rhapsody (of Fire/Dire/whatever) are Italian, and we are well known for the excellence of our cheeses....Wink Though I must say the Emerald Cheese (a new version of Gorgonzola, perhaps?) sounds particularly interesting to me...LOL
