Jurassic Park 3 - what was the point?
Titanic
Terminator 3

Plus some awful film I saw at the cinema I cannot remember the title of, with one of the dudes who does voices for The Simpsons.  It was about Super Heroes.

I'm no movie buff, but the worst film that I've seen that sticks in my mind was "Daredevil" that was released a few years ago. I try not to take films too seriously so I guess I'm easy to please.

It is very funny and as I said, it's one of my favourite films... but it's pretty dire!  The Cow scene was the worst part of the whole film for me, so unnecessary.

Ah yes, chick flicks... don't even go there!

I loved Titanic when I was around 10, hate it now

Not very keen on movies, but everything starring Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan is pure sh*t.

Infact, almost any film with a 3 in the title!

Wow there are lots.

In no order:

  1. Hercules in New York: "Caleforneya" (Well that's how it sounds when he names it) Governor's debut, he wasn't even able to speak English.
  2. Titanic: What a waste of money.
  3. Popeye: Trash, that's all.
  4. Love Story: Booooooooooooring
  5. Police Academy from 2 to 7 I believe
  6. Friday 13: All the  series, lot of ketchup, nothing more
  7. Rocky V: The previous were bad, but this was infamous
  8. Dumb & Dumber: Dead
  9. Ace Ventura Pët Detective: CRAP. somebody tell Jim Carrey to make serious films (He's pretty good at that) but probably the worst comedian since Jerry Lewis.
  10. Jaws The Revenge: Vomit inducing

Just to mention a few.

Donnie Darko, film created for depressed high school rejects who think anything cryptic is deep. I despise this movie and its lack of anything resembling substance with all of my being.

About any movie from Tim Burton, a terrible director who will ruin anything he touches I believe.

Normally a fan, though mild, of his work, Speilberg really ruined A.I.. Stanely Kubrick would have done such great things with that film.

May I ask what you like? The terrible acting, the incoherent story line, the cliché ending?

My favorite line from the movie:

Donnie:  "Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit"
Whatever the bunny's name is: "Why are you wearing that stupid human suit"

Wow, thats deep and full of hidden meanings. Gnomic=philosophical right?

I shall tell you a movie I didn't like: Saw

Awful acting throughout.  I've not seen the sequel, but apparently it's better.

I've only seen Donnie Darko the once, so I need to really see it again to enable me to analyze it better.  I didn't say I loved the film, just enjoyed it.

I forgot to mention Saw. I thought the idea of a killer torturing victims to show them the value of life was one of the freshest ideas in a horror film, and I thought that concept would be explored thoroughly. But of course the movie's main focus was blood and bad acting. Really a shame because of the potential of that idea.

Yes, the idea had potential, but it was poorly executed and the acting was indeed rather terrible.  It was a low budget movie though apparently and one of the actors was one of the writers, so he wasn't an actor.  I thought it was rather appalling.

To bother to hate a movie, I've had to have some kind of expectations for it to be good, so that leaves out Critters 3, Police Academy and Ninja Turtles etc..Here's my top ten list of overrated stinkers:

 1. Life is Beautiful
 2. Rekviem For a Dream
 3. Magnolia
 4. The Double Life of Veronique
 5. Blue (Kieslovski)
 6. Cinema Paradiso
 7. Breathless (Godard)
 8. Narnia
 9. Eyes Wide Shut
10.Everyone Says I Love You

Yeah there are some funny parts like the UFOs flying around and the Chiropractor pretending to be the late  Bela Lagusi, and then the film clips of old wars movies etc. Its so lousy how did Ed Wood convince himself he could pull it off, he never learned from his mistakes, but as some people have said so bad its good.
Have any of you guys seen the movie Ed Wood with Johnny Depp playing Wood?

I think you've mostly gone for the easy targets - it's easy to to make a truly bad blockbuster, since they pander to terrible taste as a given.
My vote for the worst movie of all time goes to "Event Horizon".
It had a fantastic premise, and a great cast - and took real talent for the director to make such a lousy movie from such amazing ingredients...........

what pisses me off about donni darko and the like is the way the media have labeled it a cult classic where as in reality it is just a film that is pretending to have a clever plot/moral but really it has none whatsoever.

there are lots and lots of bad movies released each year , they often seem to be based around a standard recipe for film making and lack any ingenuity on the writer or directors part . there are also lots of good films and documetaries released each year though , I have quite a good cinema near me where they play decent films often , otherwise i wouldnt go to the cinema.

SNAKES ON A PLANE!!!Wink

Seriously though, Kung Pow ruled. I'm disappointed they didn't make a sequel though. As for chick flicks, can't say I've seen too many, and considering how many girls won't even give me the time of day if I ask them, I doubt I will ever have to go see one. At least in theaters (I have found that one, when bored enough, will watch ANYTHING, no matter how sh*tty it is)

Also, movies that are so bad they're great: Any "horror" movie on the Sci Fi channel.

Has production stopped on the sequel then?  Last time I read something about it, they were in production, due for release either this year or next year... so you may still get the sequel yet!

Has production stopped on the sequel then?  Last time I read something about it, they were in production, due for release either this year or next year... so you may still get the sequel yet!

I still crack up at the NSync joke!

Whoa, it IS in production? That just made my night!Clap

Ivan:

I agree: with the exception of The Mask, Jim Carrey is better in "straight" roles (Truman Show, The Majestic) than the "wacky" roles (Ace Ventura, Batman).

crimson thing:

I actually thought Event Horizon was a very decent sci-fi/horror film.  It took me a couple of viewings to finally "get it," but once I did, it grew on me.

My vote for the worst films would be any comedies (romantic or otherwise) with Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock.  [N.B. Like Jim Carrey, Roberts and Bullock are actually better in "serious" roles (Sleeping With the Enemy, Pelican Brief, Conspiracy Theory et al; Speed, The Net, Murder by Numbers et al) than comedic ones.]

Also, most (though admittedly not all) films with Tom Cruise, Richard Gere or George Clooney (at least until recently).

Peace.

Australian:

According to Harrison Ford in a recent interview, everyone is simply waiting for the script re-write.  All principals are happy with the basic story, and both Spielberg and Ford are raring to go.  Ford said hopefully summer of 2007.

Peace.

okay thanks maani. Ford is getting a bit old for the role.

One of the worst that critics talk about is that Spielberg one... Waterworld.  I've not actually seen it, but is it really as bad as people say it is?

Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury seems to have a release date of 2006 on it... fingers crossed!  Oh and it's directed by Jim Carrey... is that good thing?

Hmmm, well there seems to be differing information on the Kung Pow! sequel, so I guess we'll have to wait and see who the director is.

Ernest in the Army - that's my nomination for the worst movie I've ever seen. A completely DeadDeadDead experience all the way. A "comedy" which is not funny, but it's not even one of those movies that are actually good because they're so hilariously bad. It just makes you want to chew your own arm off. This movie is a crime against humanity.

I others, but my most recent nomination is Mission Impossible 2. I just saw it on TV (at least I didn't pay for it, but it was around 3 hours long), and it makes no sense at all, and I would appreciate it if someone who saw it cleared these things up. I wasn't paying attention in a few parts, so I may have missed something important, and I may have forgotten something from the beginning which was important since the movie was so long, and I'm sorry that I don't remember most of the names. So, why:

Did that conversation with the doctor who invented Chimera (who was actually Hunt in a mask) and the head of the Biocyte (who had Chimera? Thought he had Chimera?) go on after the head was gassed in the limo? How could he wake up in the limo? Hunt remembered that conversation later in the movie (I think), so it wasn't a dream, right?

Did Hunt's boss want a live sample of Chimera?

If Chimera was only cantagious after 20 hours, why would anyone care that Nyah was loose? She wasn't contagious yet. Why would BioCyte have Chimera but not Bellerophon since the doctor invented both and worked for BioCyte?

I'm not even going to talk about Hunt putting a mask of him on that guy so he would be shot and his finding the dropped gun right next to him at the end; thos are just a ridiculous lazy devices so I'm not going to bother with them.

But I have to figure out the real plot or it'll drive me crazy. I'm probably overthinking some of these, but then it'll be easy to explain, right? People on the internet keep laughing about the stock options demand. Yes, it's a bit ridiculous and risky, but he stands to make a LOT of money.

Thanks. Oh yeah, Red Dawn sucked real bad.

If you mean Costner's Waterworld - I actually enjoyed it a lot! A bit OTT, sure, but nowhere near as bad as the critical bandwagon would suggest......and, to boot, one of the few movies to allow smoking cigarettes on screen........LOL

Yes, Costner, my mistake... I saw that is was on last year and possibly saw some of it...

Actually, Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves wasn't that great (partly due to the annoying Bryan Adams soundtrack!).  Again, not one of Kevin Costner's brightest moments.

Too true.  I saw Meet The Fokkers... yes it was quite amusing, but the film wasn't that great and it's just easy slapstick kind of comedy.

I also saw Hostel and again, it was enjoyable, but it wasn't anything great.  I only squirmed once and the rest wasn't scary at all.

Kubrick is my favorite director, but I didn't like that one too much either. I just didn't find it all that compelling.

With horrible movies, I could make a very long list. I shall then go the route someone else took, and choose based on expectation of some quality.

Titanic - Everybody raved about this. The characters were unintersting. The story is an old formula, and not even punched up at all. There is some considerable acting talent in the cast, but I guess they decided not to use it in this flick.

Chariots of Fire - Just plain dull. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" should have won best picture that year.

Any recent Will Farrell comedies - he's just doing the same thing over and over.

Chris Farley Movies - (see Will Farrell)

Adam Sandler Movies - (see Will Farrell, and Chris Farley)

David Lynch Movies - They start out stong, and then just get stupid. (Dean Stockwell singing with a blue halo, Nicholas Cage turning into Elvis) Although, "Dune" is pretty funny.

Dirty Dancing - Ugh!

I guess that's enough for now.

I don't think many have seen as many band films as I have!! I plumbed the depths of bad Korean Kung Fu films to the point it turned me almost completely off the genre.

I'd like to nominate for my hall of shame:

Zombie Rivals (aka 'The Super Ninja'/ aka 'Zodiac America- The Super Master; there's probably another title) this consists of Z grade ninja films glued together with a Korean Kung Fu film called 'Gravedigger'. Makes no sense whatsoever and the attempts to make it cohere are quite amusing in its awfulness.

The Supergang- a Bruce Le (yes Bruce LE) film that degenerates into a soft porn mess and it wasn't any good to begin with!!

Snake Fist Of A Buddhist Dragon- at least 5 films are glued together here to make complete chaos...

Charles Bronson's 'Kinjite Forbidden Subjects' is the nadir of an already declining career.

Steven Seagal- 'Belly Of The Beast'- virtually a documentary of a finished 'actor'....

All the Austin Power movies were absolutely rotten, never laughed once, and i have a very childish toilet humour.

Chariots of fire was a magnificent movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, good as it was, was very patchy.

To Australian, the word you were looking for is drivel ( not dribble)

The Hole was abysmal,  and the film about a girlie welder wanting to be a dancer , stank. Finally WTF was Dirty Dancing about, cheesy story line and cheesy music, made me wanna spew.

Damn you! I read all through this thread, and nobody had mentioned 'Garfield', then you pipped me to it you swine!

How, in these days of jaw dropping CGI effects' can a major studio (also my employer, he said in muted tones) release a film where the main (CGI generated) character and whole raison d'etre for the film, looks as if somebody has sellotaped it to the screen as an afterthought. Bill Murray (surely the most irritating actor of the modern era, bar none) must have been short of a few dollars to agree to provide the voice over.

As for sequels (Garfield 2 is due to be released later this year ) & TV series adaptations (Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels et al), you don't expect them to be that good, but do they have to be so bad?!?

One thing I forgot when posting above - I cannot leave this thread without defending Tim Burton (a previous posting was extremely scathing...); it's true, he doesn't always hit the mark (Big Fish and Planet Of The Apes come to mind), but when he does (Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse Bride, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory), he can take dark fantasy/fairy tales to a new level - he gave Johnny Depp his first major break in movies (barring his awful appearance in A Nightmare On Elm Street ), and their collaboration has continued ever since, with Depp going from strength to strength.
