Next Friday - July 7, 2006 - the Jazzis Web Shop celebrates its 5th Anniversary! This is a joyful occasion for me and looking back at the last five years I'm pretty proud of my achievements. Starting from scratch and with a very humble beginning, the site kept growing steadily. The catalogue was expanded almost on a daily basis, reaching over 2,000 titles - each and every one carefully selected form the available items on the market. I tried to be consistent as much as I could, sticking to my principles: 1. To offer on my site ONLY items that I myself would consider worth buying and 2. To balance between the two genres I personally love: Progressive Rock and Jazz (with a dash of Classic Rock and Fusion thrown in for spicing). I avoided trends and fashions (as I have always done in my life) and I still firmly believe in esthetic integrity. I hope I'll be able to continue on the same path in the future.
I wish to thank wholeheartedly all my customers, many of which became personal friends over the years, for their support. Your emails and telephone messages have been a most welcome comfort and solace during the difficult moments and a source of joy and encouragement, providing me with the strength to keep on. I am truly grateful to all of you!
I ask EACH and EVERY ONE of you to make the Anniversary Month of July a special month! Please come back to the site if you didn't visit it for a while and hopefully you will also place an order. The ONLY way I can keep going is if you continue to support my efforts. I hope to see all of you on the site soon.
===================================
I start the July new additions with one of my all time favorites:
JETHRO TULL ~ LIVING WITH THE PAST (COLLECTOR`S EDITION)
The legendary Jethro Tull and their leader Ian Anderson seem to be unstoppable - over 30 years after their inception they are still one of the strongest Rock acts on the scene and capable of pleasing crowds of listeners, old and young alike. This stunning DVD filmed mostly during JT's 2001 European & American tours, presents the band in top form, playing like there is no tomorrow. The material spans their 30+ years on record and every JT fan will find his favorite tune here, but considering the sublime level of their material everything sounds just perfect. In addition to the tour material there is plenty of other delightful surprises (filmed between 1989 and 2002), including the reunion "party" which brings together all the JT members who played in the band over the years. Extra bonus features are also present, which make watching this DVD a real treat. The Collectors' Edition includes additional audio material not available on the original DVD. Dolby Digital Stereo Surround Sound, 100 minutes.

Have a great weekend all!

One item added today:
EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER ~ LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 1970
The IOW Festival was ELP's only second gig, which again proves that some groups can be an instant success. Their debut album was to be released only three months after this performance was recorded, but obviously they had their act together already and enough material for at least two albums. The set includes a 35+ minutes long rendition of "Pictures At The Exhibition" and the other tracks come from the debut ELP album and Emerson's Nice heritage. The performance is truly electrifying, with the 19 years old Palmer brilliant technique and wonderful sense of rhythm in full bloom. Emerson switches between classical and jazz with ease and elegance and everybody seems to have great fun. I must be a sucker for the early days of all the big Prog bands (rather that the later days) and this is for me definitely the best live ELP recording ever, as it is void of any pomposity and artificial grandeur which would haunt the group in later days. The sound quality is surprisingly good and this is definitely an ELP album to have. As bonus, a 15 minutes interview with the band is added, which gives a lot of insight about their early days.

Two great Israeli jazz albums added today:
BEGER, ALBERT ~ HEVEL HAVALIM
4th album (recorded 2002) by Israeli saxophonist / flautist Albert Beger, who is the most prominent Israeli Jazz musician in the Free-Jazz field. This recording presents Beger in a trio setting with his regular bass player Gabriel Meyer and drummer Hagai Fershtman. As usual Beger composed all the music and is responsible for all the arrangements. With this album he definitely crosses over to the "top league" of contemporary Jazz players of the highest quality. The profound understanding of the Jazz idiom, the respect for past Masters (especially Coltrane, Dolphy, Ayler and Lacy) and constant drive towards the musical enlightenment make Beger one of the most interesting contemporary Jazz musicians. Contrary to the usual assumption that Free Jazz is undisciplined and chaotic, Beger's compositions are surprisingly melodic and acceptable even to people, who are not connoisseurs of the genre. I only wish Beger would get the recognition and worldwide acceptance he so richly deserves.
BEGER, ALBERT ~ LISTENING
5th album (recorded 2004) by Israeli saxophonist Albert Beger, one of the country's most prominent musician and a Master player / composer of international statue. This recording presents Beger in a quintet setting, where in addition to his regular trio (with Meyer and Fershtman) two excellent musicians come on board: saxophonist Yoni Silver and guitarist Yiftach Kadan. This expanded format enables Beger to present more complex compositions and the interplay between the musicians is broader with multi-layered voicing and rich harmonic textures. The music is as excellent as all Berger's material so far and it can be summarized beautifully by the Steve Lacy (to whom the album is dedicated) quote: "We don't determine music, the music determines us: we only follow it to the end of our life: then it goes on without us". I am sure Beger's music will go on forever as well.

Another superb Albert Beger album added today, this one with the US rhythm section:
BEGER, ALBERT ~ EVOLVING SILENCE VOL.1
6th album (recorded 2005) by Israeli saxophonist / flautist Albert Beger recorded in a trio setting with what is commonly accepted as the best Free Jazz rhythm section today: William Parker on bass and Hamid Drake on drums. The very fact that these distinguished musicians agreed to cooperate, perform and record with Beger already proves that they consider him a worthy partner in the Art of making music. The recording is a document of intensity, with superb performances from start to finish both on the emotional and intellectual planes. Beger composed two of the recorded pieces and the other two are spontaneous improvisations / compositions. It is really quite pointless to talk about music of such caliber; all I can do is wholeheartedly recommend it to any true Jazz connoisseur, who is not afraid to make an intellectual effort while listening to music in order to enter the higher planes of the Art. Most warmly recommended!

One great item added today:
CLAPTON, ERIC ~ ERIC CLAPTON (DELUXE EDITION)
I still remember very well holding this album in my hands for the first time. It was 1970 and Eric Clapton was God! Clapton's brilliant career, which developed in the late 1960's from Yardbirds via John Mayall's Bluesbreakers via Cream and finally Blind Faith created one of the mightiest Rock legends in all times, namely a Guitar Superstar (rivaled only by Jimi Hendrix). Clapton's debut album as a solo artist was probably one of the most anticipated albums in the history of Rock. As usual in such cases, when Clapton's fans (which numbered in many millions around the world) got eventually to hear the album, their consternation had no limits. It is hard to imagine the scale of the metamorphosis that Clapton went through in just a few months (at least in the public eye), which led to this album. He tried to run away from the Guitar Superstar image with all his might and the album includes (almost) no guitar solos, surely nothing even near to his extravagantly long improvisations he used to perform (especially in Cream). Many fans were of course bitterly disappointed and dismissed the album as "Pop". The events that led to the album are as follows: During the 1969 Blind Faith US tour Clapton met Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett, who were their act openers. A close musical friendship developed between them and when the Blind Faith tour was over (and the group practically disbanded) Clapton joined the Bramletts' group and toured with them. A brilliant live album was recorded in 1969 ("On Tour With Eric Clapton") and when Clapton started the recording sessions for his first solo album he invited the Bramletts and their excellent band to serve as the backbone of his studio cast. The album was recorded in the late 1969 and early 1970 in the US and UK. The result was a wonderful (and completely new) mixture of styles and genres, mostly rooted in American music, which included blues, gospel, soul, rhythm and blues, rock and pop. This strange brew ;) works exceptionally well and listening to this album without pre-conceptions is really great fun. Clapton delivers a lot of nice guitar licks (mostly in the background) and soulful vocals as well as a bunch of well-crafted songs (most were co-written with Delaney Bramlett). The supporting band is superb all the way and the result is a classic of the era. The new edition brings out a complete new mix of the album done by Delaney Bramlett, which is quite different from the originally released version mixed by the mighty Tom Dowd, as well as a bunch of previously unreleased tracks. This is a splendid opportunity to find a space on your shelves for another classic.

A superb Blues classic added today:
WINTER, JOHNNY ~ JOHNNY WINTER
2nd album (recorded 1969) by one of the best ever Blues guitarist, the Texan Johnny Winter. This was Winter's first release on Columbia, which was to be his label for many years and where he was to achieve international acclaim as one of the great pioneers of the Blues / Rock electric revolution. The album presents Winter in a basic trio format, which works splendidly for him of course, considering the magnificent power he displays both as a guitarist and a vocalist. Additional musicians are featured on several tracks, including his brother Edgar Winter, who was later to join his group on keyboards, and some excellent horn players. The Blues legend Willie Dixon plays bass on one track. The album includes a great mixture of Winter's originals and classic Blues standards, all done with incredible vigor and potency, with heartbreaking guitar solos that are a steal. This album and its successor ("Second Winter") are some of the absolutely best White Blues albums ever recorded. A must for any Blues lover!

One great Fusion album added today:
CLARKE, STANLEY ~ JOURNEY TO LOVE
3rd album (recorded 1975) by one of the most important Jazz / Fusion players / composers. A brilliant instrumentalist on both the acoustic and electric basses, Clark first came to the attention of Fusion fans as a member of Chick Corea's Return To Forever, where he played some of the most innovative bass parts of the genre. His ability to switch between the acoustic and electric bass and his incredible musicality and sense of rhythm made him the world's leader on his instrument, to be surpassed later only by the mighty Jaco Pastorius (please note Clarke plays fretted bass guitar and Pastorius fretless bass guitar, which are quite different in many ways). This album is considered his best release ever. With a stellar cast including Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, Lenny White, George Duke, Steve Gadd and David Sancious, Clarke presents a series of brilliant compositions, each one in a different style and instrumentation. The absolute highlight of the album is the acoustic trio (with Corea and McLaughlin) dedicated to John Coltrane. Also the "Concerto For Jazz / Rock Orchestra", performed with a brass section, is an amazing piece of classic Fusion. This is an absolute must for any Fusion / good music fan.

For the first time since the first Gulf War we are living under direct attack of shelling, this time from our northern neighbors - the Hizballah - in Lebanon. In all towns north of Haifa people are staying in bomb shelters and we already suffered killed and wounded. My home is in the range of their weapons, but so far nothing fell in the immediate proximity (I hope it stays this way), although Haifa already suffered bombing just a few minutes ago. Just in case you were worried.

One superb item added today:
COMUS ~ SONG TO COMUS - THE COMPLETE COLLECTION
This extraordinary album is one of the most anticipated reissues in the history of Prog. It includes all the material recorded by Comus, which includes their two albums: "First Utterance" (recorded 1970) and "To Keep From Crying" (recorded 1974), two singles by the group and another single by Roger Wootton - the band's main writer and singer. There is also one previously unreleased song recorded for the debut album. It is the debut album, which brought the band the cult status as one of the strangest and most interesting bands in the Prog history. It remains to this day a timeless masterpiece and deserves a place in the pantheon of Prog. The material, the weird vocals and superb playing is years ahead of anything that was recorded at that time. A mixture of horror, folk, avant-garde, theatrics and pure genus, definitely a unique musical creation, which is now available again after 35 years of dormancy. The second album is of course not nearly as good as the debut, recorded under pressures from the record label to produce "commercial" material. Nevertheless having the entire output by Comus in one beautiful release is bliss incarnate. An absolute must!
====================================
Today is the fourth day of bombardment of my city - Haifa, including the suburb in which I live, called Kiriat Haim. We had to run to the shelter quite a few times already and the day is not over yet. So far we are OK.
I'm pretty sure anybody who never went through this kind of experience can not even imagine it. The sheer helplessness one feels while waiting to hear the sound of the explosion is nerve wrecking and humiliating, as there is nothing one can do, except wait it out and hope for the best.
I am trying to lead a "normal" life. Although we had not left the house for the last four days, we have supplies, electricity and water. The infrastructure is completely intact. I try to work as usual - thanks to the Internet I can continue my computer work and my work on the Jazzis Web Shop. Doing this keeps me sane I suppose and although the sirens rupture the work, I come back to it when things calm down.
I wish to thank again all the people who continue to offer us their sympathy and support.

One item added today:
AUGER, BRIAN / OBLIVION EXPRESS ~ SECOND WIND
3rd album (recorded 1972) by Auger's group Oblivion Express. It features a new vocalist, Alex Ligertwood, who lasted only for this one album and was undoubtedly the best the group ever had. Stylistically this albums serves as a bridge between the Jazz / Rock roots Auger pioneered for many years towards a more soulful oriented material, modeled after Les McCann and Eddie Harris (his "Freedom Jazz Dance" gets a lovely treatment here). This was the first album to get the group to a much wider audience, including even charted in the US. It's no secret that Auger has been one of my favorite keyboard players since the mid-1960's and I enjoy each and every one of his recordings to this very day. Apparently I am not alone in this position as Auger's reissues seem to do extremely well, and rightly so. Highly recommended.
====================================
For the fifth consecutive day we have been bombed and part of the day in the shelters. Every town, village and settlement in northern Israel was showered with rockets in the last five days. An estimated 2,000 rockets were fired on us so far.
The routine of siren - shelter - explosions is becoming the reality. Not to say that one gets used to this - no way. The knot in one's stomach when the siren sounds is unavoidable and reason or logic have no power over the primeval fear for one's life.
As I said yesterday I am trying to lead a "normal" life. Although anything you do can be (and is) interrupted at any moment by the sound of the sirens, I still find the willpower to come back to wherever I left and to continue. Even writing this short message was already interrupted.
I wish to thank again all the people who continue to offer us their sympathy and support. Your emails and telephone calls are great comfort to us.
=====================================
I hope the depressing news on my end won't stop my customers from ordering from me. I assure you that all your orders will be dispatched as promptly as possible. One more Brian Auger reissue added today:
AUGER, BRIAN / OBLIVION EXPRESS ~ STRAIGHT AHEAD
5th album (recorded 1974) by Auger's group Oblivion Express. It features Auger on vocals in addition to his exceptional keyboard work (organ, electric piano, moog and string machine). Bassist Barry Dean penned half of the material. Auger contributed only one of his compositions and one jazz standard (Wes Montgomery's "Bumpin' On Sunset") gets a nice treatment. The group includes a drummer and two percussionists, which explains the percussive nature of the arrangements. The music is, as usual, a mixture of jazz, rock, rhythm and blues and soul with plenty of space for the musicians to express their ability and improvise. For the many Auger's fans this is a most welcome addition to the reissue program as these editions are far superior to the earlier One Way or Disconforme editions.
===================================
It's now over a week since the current hostilities broke on Israel's northern border and the sixth day of the bombings on our towns and settlements.
We had to use the shelter again today, although less frequently. Of course we are all quite exhausted by now, so any improvement in the situation is welcome.
Yesterday the town of Nazareth was bombed and three people were killed, two of them small children. The people of Nazareth are of course Israeli Arabs, both Christians and Muslims. This proves that rockets are blind as far as age, creed, religion or gender is concerned. I was pretty shocked by this, as Nazareth is a "second home" for me. I teach Computer Science at the Nazareth College since many years and I have made numerous close friends among the town's inhabitants.
I wish to thank again all the people who continue to offer us their sympathy and support. Your emails and telephone calls are great comfort to us.

One great item added today:
STEELEYE SPAN ~ HARK! THE VILLAGE WAIT
1st album (recorded 1970) by the finest UK Folk-Rock band in all times. Although Steeleye Span had fierce competition to the title of the leading force in UK Folk-Rock in their early days from bands like Fairport Convention and Pentangle, in retrospect they proved to be the winners in the long rum and emerged as the only band still active 35 years later. Their spectacular recorded legacy over the years not only managed to sustain a level of excellence rarely met by any other musical outfit, but also contains a cannon and core of the genre's essence. The band was formed in the late 1969, when bass player Ashley Hutchings left Fairport Convention (after recording the seminal "Liege & Lief" album) to start his own band and pursue a more traditional route than his former band was taking. Hutchings joined forces with Tim Hart, Gay Woods, Terry Woods and the singer Maddy Prior to form the first version of Steeleye Span, which lasted only a few months, but managed to record this exceptionally beautiful album. Hutchings and Prior were to remain in all the future versions of the band, with the cream of the crop of UK Folk-Rock players joining them on a less permanent basis. As on all the early Steeleye Span albums, the material consists of traditional Folk tunes, arranged and often altered by the band members. Prior's superb vocals, vocal harmonies with other band members and exceptional instrumental work are all present here and will be the band's trademark for years to come. The incredible sensitivity and respect for the origins of the music and incredible musicianship guarantees an unsurpassed mark of quality. Absolutely essential!
====================================
I was about to write that the situation is a bit more serene since yesterday with no sirens going on when the sirens started again and we ran for the shelter. The explosions soon followed. I hope this madness will be over soon.

I managed to send out ALL the outstanding orders today! Please keep your orders coming - I need this more than ever to keep me sane!

Another Steeleye Span classic added today:
STEELEYE SPAN ~ PLEASE TO SEE THE KING (EXPANDED EDITION)
2nd album (recorded 1970) by Steeleye Span Mk. II. After the recording of the debut album the couple Gay & Terry Woods returned to their native Ireland and the band enlisted the services of two exceptional musicians, both of them members of the UK Folk-Rock elite: guitarist Martin Carthy and fiddler Peter Knight. With this enhanced lineup they recorded one of the ultimate Folk-Rock albums, present here. The incredible lead vocals by Maddy Prior and vocal harmonies with the four male members, as well as the intricate and highly sophisticated instrumental work all come together to create a true masterpiece. The material is all traditional Folk tunes, skillfully and ingeniously arranged by the band. This beautiful new editions almost triples the playing time of the album by including four BBC sessions recorded in late 1970 and early 1971, all previously unreleased. Absolutely essential!
====================================
It is Saturday noon and since the early morning we had to run for the shelter almost a dozen times. Fortunately nothing fell in the immediate proximity and we are all fine. Psychologically we are all nerve-wrecked and tired, but determined to go on with our lives (as you can see).
I realize this is "old news" to everybody out there, but we are living through this and the perspective is quite different.

Hi Adam,
Keep on your great work with your site. I do admire your spirit and that you are of good mood. I made an order this week in your shop and I felt a bit uneasy ordering when I knew you were constantly in shelter from the bombs. After your message now I am happy I ordered cd's in your place. I am supposed to leave tomorrow for the USA (for 5 years) but I am not sure whether the Tsav 8 will beat me to it yet. But I will keep on ordering from your shop even in the USA (when I finally get there).

The last Steeleye Span reissue added today:
STEELEYE SPAN ~ TEN MAN MOP OR MR. RESERVOIR BUTLER RIDES AGAIN (EXPANDED EDITION)
3rd album (recorded 1971) by Steeleye Span Mk. II with identical lineup as their previous album. Based again on all traditional material, the group does not break any new ground here, but merely perfects and polishes their already almost perfect approach to making music. Everything is just the way it should be: the incredible vocal harmonies, the delicate instrumental work and the sophisticated arrangements, producing one more masterpiece and a classic of the genre. After this album was completed, Ashley Hutchings and Martin Carthy were to leave the band and Hart and Prior had to re-configure the lineup again, following with many more excellent recordings. However, the special magic of the first three albums was destined to last as a unique phenomenon. This beautiful new edition more than doubles the playing time of the album by including a BBC live concert recorded in 1971, previously unreleased. Absolutely essential!
=====================================
Since my last post at noon we had to run for the shelter almost constantly with the attacks more ferocious then before. We (personally) are all fine, but the city of Haifa suffered terribly, including dead and wounded. The level of adrenaline in our blood must record high and sleep is becoming extremely difficult to most people.
=====================================
I can't stress enough how important it is for me to see people visit my site and continue ordering. I need this more than ever to keep me sane!

One more splendid item added today:
COLOSSEUM II ~ STRANGE NEW FLESH (EXPANDED EDITION)
1st album (recorded 1975) by the second incarnation of Colosseum. After the original band disbanded in 1971, leader and drummer Jon Hiseman formed Tempest (which recorded two splendid albums) and in 1974 formed the new Colosseum with guitar hero Gary Moore. The new band had a much "harder" sound than the original band, but still played a mixture of Jazz / Rock, which by that time was already called Fusion. The band also included the excellent keyboards player Don Airey and bassist Neil Murray (Gilgamesh) as well as Mike Starrs on lead vocals. The combination of five first class musicians produced a band that could play anything between Fusion and Prog with ease and elegance, as this album proves. Although received coldly by the fans of the original Colosseum (probably due to the different sound and the fact that the strong presence of Blues elements was replaced with Rock elements), this is an excellent album in every respect and in retrospect surely deserves much more attention that it did originally. This beautiful new edition almost triples the playing time of the original album by an hour of studio material and a BBC live concert recorded in 1976, all previously unreleased. Highly recommended.

It is the 13th day of war on our northern border. The attacks on Haifa and other Israeli towns and settlements continue. I must admit that by now I am quite exhausted emotionally. Although we could leave our house and move to the south of the country for a while, I still don't feel that leaving home is a thing I want to do. I don't blame other people for doing so (and many have done it), but my Holocaust mentality says "Never Again". I won't be driven away from my home. Perhaps this is unwise, but I am determined.
====================================
Surprisingly (or may be not) the current events also brought down the number of orders to almost a complete hold. That is very disappointing as I thought people would understand this is a time when support is needed? I guess I am wrong again.

One classic 60's item added today:
PRICE, ALAN / SET ~ THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT - THE COMPLETE 60S SESSIONS
When Alan Price decided to leave the Animals in 1965 at the pinnacle of their international success, his move seemed completely inexplicable. However, in retrospect his decision led to the formation of one of the most formidable UK Pop outfits - The Alan Price Set, which left a superb legacy of great tunes. Price felt limited in the Animals format of 12 bar blues and early rhythm and blues and since he felt much closer to Jazz it was only natural that his new group would include a horn section to add a significant jazzy feel to their sound. Between late 1965 and early 1969 The Alan Price set recorded a long series of singles, some of which became 60's anthems ("Simon Smith & His Amazing Dancing Bear", "The House That Jack Built", "Don't Stop The Carnival" and many more). Price proved to be an amazing tune craftsmen, a brilliant arranger and of course a great singer. In addition to writing his own songs Price loved deeply the song of Randy Newman, many of which he incorporated into his group's repertoire. This incredible collection includes everything the group ever recorded, including BBC sessions never previously released. This is some of the best music recorded in the 1960's and listening to this timeless material should bring enormous pleasure to any good music fan. I love every minute of it.

It is the 14th day of war on our northern border. More attacks on Haifa today but thank God nobody was killed. There were many wounded of course. There were deaths in other Israeli settlements.
Every rocket falling on our towns, even if it does not bodily wound people, creates scores of so called "anxiety injuries", something parallel to "shell shock" related to army personnel in combat. People tremble violently, lose control of their bodily functions and become catatonic. In most cases this is treated with tranquilizers and people get better relatively soon, but the psychological scars remain for a very long time, if not forever.
After two weeks of hostilities the economic situation in northern Israel is becoming critical. As all businesses, services, shops, etc. are closed and people don't leave their homes, the economy came to a standstill. The Government is supposed to extend a helping hand, but there is no precedence - de jure and de facto - to deal with such extensive economic crisis.

Still very few orders, which definitely does not help to keep my spirit high.

Following the Mainhorse and Refugee reissues it's tome for the Partick Moraz solo albums:
MORAZ, PATRICK ~ THE STORY OF I
1st album (recorded 1975) by Swiss keyboards wizard and then member of Yes. Following the release of "Relayer" all Yes members embarked on solo projects, this one being definitely the most significant of them all. After completion of this project Moraz returned to Yes to play some concerts with them, soon to be replaced by none other than the returning Rick Wakeman. This album presents Moraz not only as a virtuoso player, but also more importantly as a serious composer. The music, which mixes elements of jazz, classical and world music, is complex and intricate and yet extremely melodic. As customary at the time the album is a concept work based on a story line written by Moraz himself. Moraz recorded the music in Switzerland and Brazil, where he used a group of local percussionists. This gives the music a distinct ethnic and trans-cultural feel. The splendid Jeff Berlin plays some great bass lines and drummer Alphonse Mouzon swings mightily. In retrospect this is definitely one of the best works created among the Yes Family members and a worthy document of the era. Warmly recommended.

It is the 16th day of war on our northern border. More attacks on Israeli towns and settlements by rockets from the north. So far there is no end to the conflict at the near future, which makes the uncertainty and nervousness hard to bear.

The next Patrick Moraz reissiue added today:
MORAZ, PATRICK ~ OUT IN THE SUN
2nd album (recorded 1977) by Swiss keyboards wizard shortly after he left Yes. It is remarkably consistent with the debut release (The Story Of I) in every respect: it was also recorded in Switzerland and Brazil, the lineup is almost identical and so is the multi-cultural feel. The only difference is that rather than producing a concept album Moraz composed eight individual pieces of music, which are unrelated to each other. The level of composition and the performances are splendid, as usual with Moraz, and the album is equally enjoyable. American bassist Wornell Jones replaces Jeff Berlin and plays some great funky bass lines. The great jazz bassist Isla Eckinger plays acoustic bass on one track and flute legend Herbie Mann also adds delicate touch. Great joy to see this album available again.

It is the 17th day of war. Since this mornings we've had "only" two siren warnings, which is the quietest in a very long time, but as it is only early afternoon, anything can still happen. We are burying some of our dead soldiers and civilians today, as burials were held off (especially in the North) as a result of the bombings. I hope this madness will be over soon.

I managed to pack ALL the outstanding orders and received massive re-stocking in the mail. Trying to keep business as usual against all odds.

The third Patrick Moraz reissue added today:
MORAZ, PATRICK ~ PATRICK MORAZ (III)
3rd album (recorded 1978) by the Swiss keyboards wizard. In many respects it is a pivotal work as Moraz decides to take the center of the stage (almost) completely alone this time. With the rapid development of the electronic instruments by the end of the 1970's Moraz employs a wide array of keyboard instruments with skill and elegance, making the use of additional musicians unnecessary. He does however continue to use the Brazilian percussion ensemble (The Percussionists of Rio de Janeiro), as he did on the two previous albums. The album revolves around the concept of dichotomy between the civilized world (represented by the electronic instruments) and the primitive world (represented by acoustic instruments), hoping for an eventual co-existence between the two worlds. The music is in many respects quite ahead of its time with sonic ideas, which would become widely accepted only two decades later. Since this album has been unavailable for many years, it is great to be able to hear this music again and the numerous fans of Patrick Moraz, who have been waiting eagerly for the reissue, will have a field day with this.

It is the 18th day of war. The US Secretary of State arrives in the region (again) to try and establish an exit from the conflict. Let's hope reason prevails this time and the misery and suffering stops. Since this morning a tense silence - pray God it stays this way.

The fourth (and last for the meantime - more next month) Patrick Moraz reissue added today:
MORAZ, PATRICK / SYRINX ~ COEXISTENCE (LIBERTATE)
4th album (recorded 1979-1980) by Patrick Moraz in collaboration with the Romanian pan flute player Simion "Syrinx" Stanciu. The album was reissued in 1989 under the title of Libertate with all the royalties going to the charitable foundation "Terre des Hommes", a charity organization based in Geneva, to help the children or newly liberated Rumania in 1989. The album continues the concept of the previous release (the self-titled 3rd album) dealing with the relationship between the modern and the ancient, as expressed by the use of electronic versus acoustic instruments. Moraz continues to use the Brazilian percussion ensemble (The Percussionists of Rio de Janeiro) and adds a few assisting players, but the essence is expressed by the duets between his keyboards and the enchanting pan flute - one of the oldest instruments in human culture. Again the album is ahead of its time in many respects: the innovative sounds produced by the keyboards instruments, the extensive use of ethnic elements, etc. This beauty is definitely worth checking out, not only by Moraz fans, but also by any fan of unorthodox music.

It is the 19th day of war. Although diplomatic efforts are on their way the sirens gave us an early wakeup call and sounded several times already. Not a pleasant way to start the day. And it's still morning.

Here is the last addition for this month, the all time classic Allman Brother album newly remastered and expanded:
ALLMAN BROTHERS ~ EAT A PEACH (DELUXE EDITION)
4th album (recorded 1971) and the first release following Duane Allman`s tragic death. Originally released as a double LP, it contains 4 different sessions: studio recordings completed while Duane was still alive, studio recordings completed by the band without Duane, live recordings at the Fillmore East, recorded in March 1971 and included also on the Deluxe edition of the Fillmore East album and finally live recordings at Fillmore East, recorded in June 1971, which was Duane's last live recording. In retrospect it is a magnificent album, full of brilliant performances and vital energy with a drop of bitter sadness of course. This is classic stuff, which deserves a permanent position in any decent music library. The new exquisite edition includes the entire June 1971 Fillmore East concert, released here for the first time. As the Allmans were first a foremost a live band, this new material is, as usual, a gold mine of musical thrills. Essential!

It is the 20th day of war. A cease-fire was declared last night after the terrible incident, which cased the death of over 50 Lebanese civilians. The silence, after so many days of sirens and explosions, is quite strange.
