Talk is the only Yes album I listen to released after Tormato.

Fragile is by far the best
and rarely quoted here!

I haven't listened to drama enough to know, but I like what i've heard of it, my favourite Yes album from the eighties and early nineties (not incl. ABWH) would be 90125, after that they occasionaly come up with good albums (too rarely it seems). Only Magnification and Keys to ascension delivered the real thing.

90125 was actually the first Yes album I ever heard. While I can see why some die hards who grew up with them may have a problem with it, I always thought it was a great album

I reckon "Talk" is very underrated. The line up is probably the reason, as both Howe and Wakeman are missing, but personally I find the music excellent.

Endless Dream on talk is excellent, never heard the whole album though.

I think Drama is awesome! It's my fav 80's yes (excluding ABWH)

Isn't the "new one" very progressive? all the songs I heard from it are excellent except for Don't go.

I chose drama, but definitely 90125 has the best production!

I voted for Drama, because INTO THE LENSE and MACHINE MESSIAH are even too great for the band without a leader on! :-)

Really, all the 4 mentioned albums are outstanding.

Every now and then, I give Talk a listen.  I can never find anything interesting on it.  The Ladder always sounds like they needed just a little more inspiration.

Magnification I enjoy quite a bit.

For me 'Drama' is not a marginallized album, but a work better than 'Tormato'...

But for me the best 'margin' album from YES is 'Big Generator'. I don't know why it isn't here...

Drama!!!

Sooo much better than 90245 IMO...

Of those listed, DRAMA is easily the best, although 90125 is very close to it in quality.

The only Yes album I just don't like is Big Generaror. Tales has its moments, but all the rest are OK with me. Count me among the few who actually like Union & Talk.

Me three

Any album Yes released after the seventies doesn't get enough credit (Imo) But in a way I can understand why people don't like 90125 and Big Generator (They're not Close to the Edge and Fragile), Even though I reckon they're great albums!!

  • Drama ****
  • 90125 **** (3.5 for the hardcore prog fan)
  • Big Generator ***

Those eighties greats I really enjoy!! Magnification is equal to Drama I think. And Keys to Ascension (Studio side) is just as good too.

very clearly DRAMA, although TALK must come a
close second, but don't throw 90125 in with them,
that to me was, or rather, became a credible
YES-album i itself.

and i enjoy parts of UNION as well. my theory is,
hadn't any of the sour grapes about the
creation/abortion of this album escaped to the
public, it might well have become one of the most
adventurous YES-albums in the public domain... any
thoughts on this?

"Drama" followed by "90125".

Drama WITHOUT question. I can't believe some people would even consider
putting the other albums over it. I guess it's all just opinion. I think Drama
rivals the bands best.

The "band's new one" is also easily the second best choice on that list IMO.
Magnification is a fantastic album if you can handle the 3 pop songs on it.
And with the look of some 80s yes fans, you would all be VERY surprised at
how good Magnification really is.

i thought, the three pop songs (you are probably
referring to "don't go", "give love each day" & "can you
imagine") were the best ones on MAGNIFICATION –

DRAMA

But I don't think Drama is marginalized. Everyone seems to like it. Great album.

the new one (whatever its called) a.k.a. "Magnification" has been overlooked...a shame for those who have overlooked it, actually.

(Should an album released in October, 2001 really be referred to as "new"?)

Then you seem to have a problem if those little ditties impressed you most on what was a very good Yes album and could have been great if Steve had been allowed more scope.Magnification was easily their best offering since Tormato.

90125 is a great album sadly understimated on this list

Fragile is also sadly underestimated , I believe it is in the top 5 of all time , better than CTTE . I think people have become overly familiar with it and therefore have become a bit contemptuos. But when it came out it was a real milestone in the public's acceptance of prog

"Drama" is usuelly marginalized by prog-fans. I think that this album is much better than "Tormato" or "90125" and shouldn't be so low rated like their.

P.S.Sadly "Time and a word" is often marginalized too.

couldn't agree more about 90125 but I could swear you have Fragile and CttE backwards in that second half.  The only contemptuous posts I've noticed recently involve CTTE.   Fragile is a great album... one of the many great albums they did during the course of the 70's, but find me another group... another album who has the ENTIRETY of their album still on their playlists and requested to play... 35 years later.  You obviously don't think highly of it.... many many many more people do

my second choice... there are a fair amount of people running around that recognize that album for what it is... a 'latter day' masterpiece.  90125 is vilified by many... quite unfairly I may add. It's a great damn album.. it's not Close to the Edge but hey... change/progression is good.. isn't it.

For a pop rock album 90125 is good. I went through a phase of listening to nothing but classical music and jazz. It was basically on all the time. I simply lost interest in all other music, especially rock pop music.

So, it's difficult for me to really get into YES's work after Drama. I think that's why I love Tales so much. It's just such a beautiful work of music to me. Key Studio and Magnification also capture a lot of my attention. The one thing I can say is they stuck it out. With all the turmoil that went through that band. It's amazing they are still making music together. Also, their musical versatility is really unmatched in my opinion. Everything from pop songs to Tales. Few can say that.
