I still haven't digested Frances.  Something tells me that with those titles, this won't be bubblegum pop either.

LOL Now THAT would be truly surprising from TMV.

Wow, very good news, and yes, hopefully they include more rock on this one, but they will always be a jam band onstage, whether they include it in their albums or not.

I've been waiting for this since the day after Frances was released. They should stop being so Spanishified though. It's getting annoying Cry, just gander at those titles. Sounds vicious! ... and foriegn..

I bet the drummer will sound significantly better on this record, he keeps improving.

A little xenophobic, are we? Wink

I for one appreciate and enjoy TMV "showing their roots," so to say. But I can't wait for the album to come out. Now we just need a big world tour so I can see them (somewhere). Tongue

Pretty much the only thing the band has said about this album (as far as I know) is that the drumming is the most intense they have ever heard. Apparently Jon Theodore was physically sick throughout the recording process because of the strain on his body playing this music caused, which is kind of exciting.

Xenophobia does not apply to this situation. The Mars Volta members have citizenship in the United States, and so do I. The fact that we are all Americans are so unfortunately different is a brick wall I have to jump over as a fan of the band. The Mars Volta is great, but I love them for the music they create, not how cultural they can behave.

Agreed Arsillus...god forbid the titles are a bit outré, polyglot, and sapid for some peoples' tastes.  Tracks like 'Today I'm Mildly Ecstatic' (a chimerical conceit on my part now) might have been more 'acceptable' I suppose? Aha.

They have pride in their ethnic background...and not to mention seem to be language buffs/enthusiasts - which I appreciate, being a scribbler of sorts every now and then.  The American bit seems largely irrelevant to me...you must really limit yourself to American centralized bands/music??  Not picking on you, simply asking.

Not to spar, and I'm not supporting their ethnic background from some personal relativity, but I  just don't see how that can be any incentive towards expressing such splenetic overtones and general disdain; because it challenges you to look into what they could mean, because it's not overtly perspicuous?...these guys seem to be all for challenging their audience in whatever means necessary, and I for one, am all for it.

It's easy to get choleric at what you don't understand or don't comprehend right away.  It's much more rewarding to dig and mull it over a bit.  Or, well, just keep getting annoyed with their choices, hey, after all, it's your prerogative.

Apparently these are the track lengths for Amputechture:

1 Vicarious Atonement (7:21)
2 Tetragrammaton (16:43)
3 Vermicide (4:17)
4 Meccamputechture (11:04)
5 Asilos Magdalena (6:36)
6 Viscera Eyes (9:25)
7 Day Of The Baphomets (11:58)
8 El Ciervo Vulnerado (8:59)

Tetragrammaton looks very interesting...
