Thanks to Ed from RushIsABand Blog fame for posting this unreleased jam from Billy Sheehan's website:
http://www.musicintheabstract.org/rush-oddities/audio/billy-sheehan-alex-neil.mp3 - http://www.musicintheabstract.org/rush-oddities/audio/billy-sheehan-alex-neil.mp3

It's a clip of Billy jamming with Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart before an April 5, 1990 show in San Diego where apparently Geddy was late for the sound check.

Its kinda cool!

Nice one Ed-you can access his brilliant Rush homage site here: http://www.rushisaband.com/ - http://www.rushisaband.com/ .
There are an incredible amount of Rush goodies on this site.Explore!Smile

Nice to hear a cleaner version of this jam.  It's been traded as an audience bootleg track for years.  In fact, it was on a fan release back in 1999 ( http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=1010 - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=1010 ).  That particular release also had some other rare songs in tune-up / jam format that never were played live.  Rush rarely did anything like this that ever surfaced.  There's also the famous guitar and drum jam from 1976 ( http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=865 - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=865 ) and a country music bass / drum jam from 1996 ( http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=916 - http://www.digitalrushexperience.com/database/review.php?RecordingID=916 ).  It's been a few years since I was seriously into collecting Rush's live recordings.  I still have about 375 shows on disc, most of which I think are out on bit torrent these days.

I have now, but I was acknowledging that it's cool that Alex, Neil, and Billy jammed.

Listened to it 2 times so far... I'm surprized by just how tight the jam is everyone sounds very good and no one if out of balance at all. Very good stuff.

Was Billy Sheehan playing on his own bass or one of Geddy's basses???

I'm guessing Geddy's, because this was a Rush soundcheck that Lee was late for and I doubt Sheehan would bring hhis own bass/rig to a gig that wasn't his (I'm pretty sure that Rush didn't have an opening act on the Presto tour, which I believe this is from).

This is an awesome recording though. Alex is not only incredibly creative, but also has the technical skill to make his ideas into sound.

Actually, disregard my previous post. It's quite possible Sheehan was playing his own bass through Geddy's Rig (?). Sheehan's band Mr. Big opened for Rush on the Presto tour.

Minus points for me for being ignorant.
