This is a sub-genre of Prog I used to hate at one time, but eventually grew to  LOVE!

Where better to start than with the ones who invented it, Magma! When a buddy of mine played Magma-Live for me, it was all over! I started to check out their stuff, also enjoying MDK, Udu-Wudu (good Halloween disc BTW!  ), Khontarkoz, and Attahk. Just something about C. Vander's brilliant drumming, the angry throbbing fuzz bass, Kobaian singing and the layering of ideas that really got my attention.

Venturing further, I checked out RUINS (a Japanese bass/drums duo that are wild and harrowing to say the least), Shubb Niggurath (scary Zeuhl that would be a perfect soundtrack for a HP Lovecraft story about the monster from whcih the band takes its name), Yeti ( a cool American Zeuhl band without vocals).

Not sure of where to go from here, but this sub-genre is one I can't get enough of.

Any suggestions?

People are puzzled why I don't dig the Stones, well, I listened to the Stones, I tried, and I tried, and I tried, and--I Can't Get No Satisfaction!

Guapo - 5 Suns is a very Zeuhl influenced album from a great English trio. They collaborated with Ruins a few years ago, but the album is currently out of print and extremely hard to find. Their more recent Black Oni is also good, but I'll live with it for a bit longer before reviewing it.
