I have one son, Lorenzo, 2 years and 8 months.
I´m just curious to see how many kids the average progger has?

I'm older than your average progger so my two are in their early 20s. Alicia is graduating from college this year and going to law school. Ramsey is in college as well and is a working actor.

Two, by artificial insemination. We had only wanted one, but since
artificial inseminations only work with a 10-20% chance, we both went
for it. The chances it would work for both were around 2%, but
sometimes the dark horse wins. Their names are Alice and Dorothy, by
the way, after our favourite books for children (the "Alice" books by
Lewis Carroll and "The Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum). I am thinking
of writing a sequel to them for the sake of our kids, in which Alice
and Dorothy will meet.

I have two, a girl of 4 (Gwendolyn) and a boy of 2 (Yannick, named after tennis player Yannick Noah and guitarist Janick Gers - spelled this way because we liked having a Y in both their names). Their most recent relevant interest: dancing in front of my shiny black piano (it works like a mirror) to Home Again and Renaissance Faire by Blackmore's Night.
@Video Vertigo: what you're asking is perfectly legal in the Netherlands, but same as mixed couples you have to qualify. Guess they want to guarantee the children to have a fair chance at a good upbringing in terms of parental capabilities.

They may now; there was a change in law in 2001. Actually we were in a
legal grey zone when we had the artificial inseminations, which seemed
to make it necessary for the government to make up some laws; we had
been battling with legal officials for three years until we were
allowed the inseminations, and we had to prove we were "worthy" first.
We would
have gone as high as the Constitutional Court to fight for our right
for artificial insemination, but it proved not to be necessary. The
government came up with laws ruling this issue a few months later; I
can try and look up (and translate) the exact wording of the law, if
you want me to.
By the way: Two pregnant women in a household are a nuisance.

I bet you will, though.
Many of us say we don't ever want marriage or children, when we are young, but:
- kids happen (see "sex" -- I don't think most of us were "planned" by our parents)
- attitudes, tastes & priorities change as we mature
Wait and see -- get back to us in 15 - 20 years, okay?
From my experience, very few of these "highschool sweetheart" marriages/relationships last, or even should last. We are still very much developing as people when we are teens & in our early - mid twenties: we don't really know ourselves, let alone the other person. Your personality is in flux at that age -- people grow apart. (Believe it or not, the activity or friend you thought was "cool" at 15 might well seem boring or idiotic at 30.)
Of course there are always a few exceptions -- some do mature early, but most don't, and some NEVER really mature (and their friends and lovers move on). You say you are still a "child" yourself, so why plan now to spend the "rest of your life" with a specific person? Slow down & find out who you both are as you mature! Date others! (Just don't marry/get pregnant while very young. The almost inevitable divorce/split will really hurt the children, perhaps turn both you and them cynically against the concept of love and marriage, and single parenthood is really tough, and far from ideal, in my opinion and experience. (I teach lots of teens, "twenty somethings" & single moms.)
Hear me now -- believe me later!

I met my wife when I was 18, and married her when I was 23. Didn't think anything of it at the time, but now that I'm approaching 30 it seems we got married young. But I wouldn't change anything because she's my best friend and I can't imagine life without her, nor can I imagine rearing children with anyone else. She'll be a great mom.

Overbreeding is a big issue in the world and no one cares.
There are more than enough kids in the world
but people keep breeding and breeding and breeding.
Unless you can afford it just stop.
No one that breeds deserves 1 cent of incentive from the government
its a conscious choice and its your fault if you can't afford it.

That's a bit harsh
People would still be having children even ff they wouldn't get money to raise them and then we'd have a whole world of illetaretes because they can't afford to send their children to school.
The rich kids would be the only one with educations and all power will fall in their hands wich leads us to something we had ages ago again.
Or maybe I'm just thinking to much

That's an incredible story, thank you for sharing it. You guys were meant to be together, no question about it. I guess I just wanted to address Peter's comment about age. I agree about maturity at 30 versus 18 or 20 years old, but also wanted to say (at least for us), when it works, it works, no matter what age you are. What was cool was that I was sour on relationships from some prior bad experiences when I met my wife - found my soulmate when I wasn't even looking.

As I said, there are always exceptions, but I personally don't know of any happy "high school sweethearts" marriages. I know of many broken/disfunctional ones.
Any marriage is a challenge, and requires maturity, give and take, and real communication. I believe that the odds are decidedly against these types of marriages ("my first girlfriend became my wife," etc) lasting.
I'm glad to see the exceptions here, but please, young'uns: don't rush into marriage, and don't get pregnant outside of a stable, mature relationship. To quote Chief Dan George:
"The only thing the world really needs is for every child to grow up in happiness."

No children for us & no plans for any; who knows though, Vicky may wake up one day with the evangelical gleam in her eye...
I think there are quite a few couples of our generation who are choosing not to have children - as far as getting old is concerned, we've got that covered; befriend your friends' children & get them to look after you in your dotage.

I've got a 4 year old daughter.
My wife and I, we'd like to have a 2nd kid, but biologically there seems to be a problem. Adoption may be an option (that rhymes) but I'm not sure about the ethical part of it. Taking a kid out of a different country...
But we're happy with our 4-year old!

Why does adoption mean the child has to be from a different country - can you not adopt in your own country?

From the information that I have, there are very little children in Belgium waiting for adoption, and many parents who apply for it.
