I don't have anything against it. I haven't heard many punk bands, but
I'd definitely be interested in hearing Dead Kennedys, The Stranglers,
and some post-punk bands such as Joy Division etc. Just haven't got
around to getting anything yet.

Personally I think there's nothing wrong with punk. Especially the more
original punk, like the Dead Kennedys. It's not my favourite genre, but
I really can enjoy it. Of course some punk is dreadful (like whiny emo/poppunk), but in any musical genre there are bands I don't like. So I think there's nothing wrong with punk. |

There's some good punk, like The Clash, The Strangler, and The Jam. But a lot of it really awful. Pretty much all the stuff that gets released today is trash. I would rather eat sh*t than listen to Simple Plan, that's an easy one. The Stranglers actually did a live album with Bob Fripp, Peter Hammil, Ian Underwood, Steve Hilllage, and Nik Turner. And John Lydon was a fan of Peter Hammil, Can, Hawkwind and Captain Beefheart. He actually tried to join Can in the late seventies, and they covered Silver Machine on their reunion tour. The myth that punks in the 70's hated prog is not true. Punk did not kill prog, it was the music industry that wanted prog to become more commercial, thus causing it to loose its artistic values. -------------

I have no problem with punk as it was in the 70's, apart from rubbish like the Ramones. UK punk was pretty good IMO. Bands like Souxsie & the Banshees were brilliant. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Fantastic! Very clever intelligent music, and surprisingly prog.. Ok, I'm talking bollox. The Buzzcocks were ok, but I never really liked the singers voice. I prefered the darker stuff like The Damned and Siouxsie. I thought the Clash had great moments too. They seemed to vary their song writing style a lot. The Stranglers (Punk Related??) were excellent. I'm no Ramones expert, but what I've heard sounds too grounded in Rock 'n' Roll. To basic... Exhibit A: 'Sheila is a Punk Rocker'..

I'm sorry but almost all (99.9%) of punk that I heard I didn't like and others I hate. The only punk I can enjoy are bands that use influence from punk to mix with their own sound. It's just another music genre...wich I don't like at all and played by angry cavemens. -------------

I voted disgusting... sure... some punk is probably good... some may even be very good... but theres SO MUCH bad stuff... and plus all the HORRIBLE little imps that punk spewed forth from its tainted womb... ie. pop punk, emo... and all that other... well... I cant really call it 'music'... I just cant see the Clash as being punk... but if they are punk, then theyre the best damn punk band I know of. |

Punk rock and the Internet are the biggest purveyors of bad bands to have ever existed. Reason being, typically, music comes from vision, fire, ambition, and punk rock + the WWW have told people they can still do music but without having any of these,.. rather, that they can pull it off with only so much as a guitar and a garage and nothing better to do. The so-called rebellion is a big mass conformist orgy of mediocrity and a mockery of music in all it's art forms - from the simplest to the most complex. Tom Petty is mostly three chords too, but Tom Petty has soul, purpose. The majority of punk bands and bands spawned from them do not. Furthermore, there's no "message", "energy", or "groove" that punk trips over that I can't find done better in other legitimate genres. I dig the Clash. ------------- black star, white light

I like punk; I think cacophony can be awesome, but punk fans and their 'anti-prog' opinions tend to annoy me. I think prog and punk have more in common then meets the eye; obviously not music-wise but in sensibilities. Instead of complaining about prog because they don't like it I think we both should unite against those who make music for purely commercial reasons, or at least let the others live their lives. ------------- Your life or your lupins!!! |

There are good punk groups.. BUT most of the punk groups are a bunch of angry kids who recently got their guitars (See Sex Pistols or The Hives on their first record for example) and wants desperatly to make music. So i like Dead Kennedys (They are pretty good), and some post-punk more sophisticated bands. The only thing that i like in Punk is the pure emotion (not all of them). -------------
