Actually, from the other stuff I've heard of theirs apart from Argus, they're more of a straight guitar rock band. Not sure where to put them.

I can't place them into any of the above categories, partly for my reluctance in subsribing to the "Proto" term. WA were original, somewhat reminiscent of a mediaeval approach that's uncommon with blazing. twin guitars.

Progressive? For sure.

Perhaps first four albums were some sort of protoprog/classic rock, but later they were more a straight rock band.

No fancy categories required or appropriate. Wishbone Ash were a fantastic, British classic rock band, with strong folk influences and a relatively unusual twin lead guitar line-up that specialized in unison/harmony guitar lines.

Wishbone is straight up meat and potatoes rock role similar to The Who, AC/DC, and Free all of whom I love.  In fact, I belive Wishbone Ash openbed for the Who in the early 70s.  Amazing Band.

''Other''.Not really a prog band but many prog fans like them.

What he said. Thumbs Up Not an expert on them by any means, but I have "Argus", which is a great album, with some prog influences. However, they're not prog IMHO, but rather an excellent classic rock band - so I voted for "other". BTW, they were a big influence on Iron Maiden, who took their twin axe attack from them (and from Judas Priest too... and the axes in Maiden are three by now, but that's another story).

Prog-related at best! and if it was not for Argus, they should not even be in the Archives.

Loved them until the album live dates
