All Time Prog Hero
For me it is a toss up between Jon Anderson and Peter Gabriel. Yes and Genesis being my favourite bands.
Jon for his voice. There is no one that can get close in my opinion.
Peter for his sheer inventiveness and quirkiness

Gabriel for prog heroism. He was/is the face of prog - eccentric, over the top, and yet clearly possessing both musical ability and a sense of humour.

Hammill, without a doubt. one of the most creative musicians in prog.
he has a huge output, with some 40+ solo albums and about a dozen
albums with VdGG (I'm already counting the forthcoming live album of
the RFH gig, which is overdue and should be out any day now). and of
course he is THE VOICE

Without any hesitation Peter Gabriel because of his mindblowing stage antics during early Genesis and his wonderful first 4 studio albums and Peter Gabriel Plays Live !

Ian Anderson.
Charismatic frontman, good sence of humour, great range of emotions.

It's Fripp in this case, if you had another choice I'd go for Steve Howe.

Ian Anderson showed the genius of man. He is an incredibly intelligent with a psychotic sense of humor, with is pretty much the ultimate combination. He managed balance these and create wonderful music. He is also a great philosopher, with ideas about society all throughout his music. This is not mentioning his skills as a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, which are tough to boot.
Sadly missing is Robert Wyatt, who is an incredible drummer and singer who was and still is incredibly unique in style. He continues to make incredible music and is a very moral man. His songwriting is incredibly personal as is his performing.

Hammill for me of course. Ian Anderson would run him a close second though followed by Fripp, probably.
I do have one question to ask though. At the risk of sounding a complete and utter thicko - who the hell is Steve Wilson? He's leading he poll and I've never even heard of him!

Where are John Myung/Mike Portnoy/DT, Roine Stolt, Andy Tillison, and Daniel Gildenlow?
If given a vote, I'd probably vote Tillison, he is THE prog person. He's a rarity because he's a prog musician that is entirely influenced by prog. Stolt, Gildenlow, and others are primarily influenced by other genres.

Steve Wilson is the inspiration behind Porcupine Tree.
If you don't listen to them get some - its great stuff. BUT for me the early albums are the best - Signify, The sky moves sideways, Staircase Infinities.

I'm amazed not to find CHRIS SQUIRE in this poll. To me he's the driving force and the one constant factor behind Yes, his bass play is unique and his solo projects are fine as well.

Think of who you're going to pick... then ask yourself... did he put on a ridiculous outfit and prance about in it? EVERYONE knows the real heroes are the ones who have their own absurd costumes and fly around fighting crime. Gabriel is one of those very heroes.
