Steve Hackett - Firth of Fifth?

That will be his "Genesis revisited" version... worth hearing!

It's always interesting with such compilations to see which bands are included who are not listed on our site. In terms of the golden age of prog, they tend to reflect the wider view of the genre which was prevalent then In this case, Spirit and BOC are not on the site, and several others are deemed by us to be proto-prog.

That's not bad. Quite a few of the tracks are also on the "Best Prog Album in the World Ever" compilation. They could have been a bit more original with ELP (Lucky Man yet again) but at least there are a few more obscure bands there.

Great track listing, but as ever with prog compilations there are some glaring omissions of some prog 'big hitters' - Giant, Crimson, Floyd, Camel to name but a few. There won't be a perfect prog compilation until they are included.

some very good songs in there...

couldn't they replace BOC's Ripper with another song?
why does it always have to be this particular song?AngryLOL

(it's a good song but is this the only one they know from BOC?)

Yeah, like maybe with something from Kansas instead?

Some of the absentees are presumably as a result of (polite Smile ) refusals by some bands or their respective copyright holders; eg my impression is that historically KC don't like their stuff appearing on compilations.

That is interesting... I was just going to write that I had wished that KC had appeared on the list.

Not too bad compilation. But why PA appears on it?

because to mention us gives it more credibilty?

Doesn't sound too bad... I'm a subscriber to Classic Rock magazine, so I hope I'll have a chance to get a discount on it.

BTW, I agree with Aapatsos about "Don't Fear the Reaper". I love BOC, but that particular song has very little to do with prog (though it is indeed a good song). What about putting "Astronomy", "7 Screaming Dizbusters", or the immortal "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" instead?

I should quote PA every time I lie then. LOL

I know its kind of pointless to discuss the tracks on the album but....

Is it me, or is that an "ultimate Progressive Rock" compilation, without Gentle Giant?

I for one see that as a pretty serious omission....Ermm

and em............King Crimson?.............aren't they "kinda" important in the prog rock scene?.....just a little..........
