As a Procol Fan of some 35+ years standing, I'd be interested to know your ratings of some of the best tracks by these Prog pioneers, and possibly the most under-rated band ever. Yes, they have made some 'stinkers' (most notably on Something Magic 1978), but all in all they've been a great band throughout. Apologies for any opinions on great tracks not listed above! I voted for "Whiter Shade of Pale".

Mine favourite is In Held ´Twas in I. The first musical interlude along
with the sitar solo, the ethereal hammond in Autumn of my Madness and
the whole Look to your soul and grand finale, since the heavy riff
intro, the harpsichord arrangements, the Hendrix-like solos and the
stunning piano, organ and drum classical mood in Grand Finale are some
of the Procol´s finest moments. Another exceptional song is Whaling Stories, song that shows how great B J Wilson was (his drumming in studio version sounds just the same as the version with orchestra!). Another ones that I like very much and are not listed are Wreck of Hesperus and Pilgrim´s progress, two great Fisher songs from A Salty Dog album And an honor mention goes to Weisselkienzenacht, an excellent instrumental that closes their 2003 album. Unfortunately Fisher and Brooker fought because of copyright of A whiter Shade of Pale and I doubt they will reunite to release another excellent album as Well´s on Fire. |

Repent Walpurgis and Gates Of Cerdes on the debut? Not on this poll? ------------- let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

Skip Softly (my Moonbeams) >> much under rated and gets my vote,
Deadman's Dream and
Song For A Dreamer (Trower's best track in Procol in dedication to Hendrix's death)
and you got my ten best.
Not one of them dates fromthe second half of their career (past the Live In Edmonton)
Kudos for the remark regarding BJ Wilson's oustanding drumming (RIP in 91
