Ok ok...before you all go off and bash me because you may think that
Nine Inch Nails is not progressive. All I have to say that after listening to
the downward spiral for years and years, mainly becasue its such a terrific
album, I believe that the album as a whole totally prog. I just got the
anviversary sacd version. After listening to that especially you have to
agree with me. Not just the fact that its a concept album.
Sure you can argue that its Industrial, but if you knew what real Industrial
music is, you would argue that Reznor is more melodic than anything else
in the Industrial genre.
I'd even go as far as saying the last Nine Inch Nails album the fragile
would be considered prog.

Yes, but I've heard he doesn't mind a good nailing either!

Indeed...This album and the Fragile definitly have prog elements. NIN's
earlier albums PHM and Broken are flat out Industrial/Electronic Angst.

I must admit I haven't anything they've done 'this century', but an ex-girlfriend of mine used to play their stuff all the time in the mid 90's. I quite liked what I heard, but it struck me more as industrial indie rock. As you rightly say, though it was more melodic than most 'industrial stuff' of the time.

The way you describe 'Downward spiral' suggests a conceptual leaning, and sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out. I may have been a little hasty in my judgement
