As reported in http://www.dprp.net/news/index.php - http://www.dprp.net/news/index.php
GENESIS: always happy to keep the rumour mills spinning we want
to bring you the news two separate sources have mentioned the five
members of Genesis from the '71-'75 period being back in the studio
working on a new album (or rehearsing for a live show). Both former
Chicago guitarist Dawayne Bailey and BBC Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce have
mentioned it.
To up the ante even further Swedish newspaper http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=2198&a=544847&previousR%20enderType=3 - Dagens Nyheter
reported this morning that this coming Tuesday Peter Gabriel and Phil
Collins will make the official announcement of a new Genesis tour in
2007 or 2008 in an LA press conference. A translation of the article
(and fans' sceptical reactions) can be read on the http://hit.demonhosting.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1147615852 - Genesis forum .
Maybe, just maybe these guys might be up to something. One can only hope.

These rumors have been going on for a while. Hopefully on Tuesday than we can get an official answer. I would be absolutely pumped if they wrote new material and toured.

Here is a hastily made translation of the article published at Dagens Nyheter's web site (DN is Sweden's leading morning paper). It was published on Sunday 14 May, 2006 around 13.00 GMT. http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=2198&a=544847&previousRenderType=3 - http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=2198&a=544847&previousR enderType=3 Peter Gabriel back in Genesis On Tuesday it will become official: Genesis are to reunite, with Peter Gabriel on vocals and Steve Hackett on guitar. And Phil Collins will once again take position behind the drums. APART FROM A charity performance in 1982, it is 31 years since they shared a stage. But now it is a fact. The legendary five piece setting, with Peter Gabriel on vocals and Phil Collins on drums is back together. A new album will be released this autumn and that will be followed by a tour where the group is expected to re-create the stage version of their concept album ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’. That stage version was never filmed during the day, but whose legend has grown ever stronger over the years. Dagens Nyheter learns that Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins on Tuesday will make the announcement about the reunion at a press conference in Los Angeles. During the first half of the 70’ this setting of Genesis released four studio albums and a live album which were considered as pioneer works within progressive rock. Peter Gabriel left the band in 1975 and has since enjoyed a successful solo career and is considered a pioneer in world music, music video making and multimedia. Genesis’ most recent album ’Calling all stations’ was released in 1997. By then, also Phil Collins had left the group and both the album and the subsequent tour were great flops. ‘The reason behind the band breaking up was due to the fact that everyone in the band was a songwriter’, said key member, keyboard player Tony Banks when I met him at the offices of the band’s management in London. ‘There simply were too many ideas circulating. And in those days we looked upon side projects as being unthinkable if you were to remain in the band. You could say we've all matured since then.’ Anders Lundquist (writer) (translation by harry)
Now, DPRP highly doubts any of these 'facts' are real, but we won't take any chances not to report them here. The memory of us quoting Dave Gilmour's denial of a Pink Floyd reunion at Live8 still too fresh (and painful) to ignore any scoop. So when the reunion happens in 2012 just remember where you read it first.

I can certainly understand bagging CAS but Duke really ain't that bad IMO. Have you heard the review that Patrick Bateman gives it in the movie American Psycho? Funny as and quite insightful.

Rumours like these were spread when people spoke about the Wilson/Akerfeldt/Portnoy collaboration, and look what happened there
But I can believe that these rumours have been going on just a little too long to take seriously.

Swedish paper Dagens Nyheter had a follow-up article of their last one today:
Oh Yes, Genesis do come, but later.
No, Genesis reunion with Peter Gabriel isn't official yet, as DN wrote this monday.
Only almost. As late as 13/5 Phil Collins did confirm in Canadian Toronto Star that all of the group's members from the first half of the 70s have met to discuss a number of concerts in big cities around the world.
The press conference that, according to news site Virgin.net, should be held in Los Angeles this tuesday didn't occur and the timetable for the coming album and concerts is still secret.
(Sorry for my not so good translation)

Your gonna shoot them? Than there won't even be a chance for a reunion tour in the future.

I agree that I want a Peter Gabriel website official announcement. He's strikes me as the hardest to rope into the deal. I'd love if it was the case, though.

Well... maybe I'll let them live for some few more years, but I'll track all of those rumor starters for making all the hype and leaving us with nothing at the end

And the latest rumour....
+++probably reported on this forum elsewhere, but hey, ho+++
Phil Collins apparently quoted from a Los Angeles radio show late in May, stating it is "definite" that all 5 members of the classic line up are to re-stage and perform 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' for a limited series of shows in late 2006/early 2007 to be recorded & filmed for CD & DVD release.
How confident are we this is true, I wonder?
It does however raise one of the great Genesis questions, though - can fatty Gabriel still fit into the Slipperman costume, and if so, will his vocals be audible/coherent this time...?
Answers on a postcard to the usual address...

Jim. It'd be great to see 'The Lamb...', but as for a new album, even if it were true, it may well disappoint people who expect a lot from it. Certainly, I found VDGG's reformation album 'Present' underwhelming personally, with two classics in 'Every Bloody Emperor' and 'Nutter Alert' but a host of other songs that weren't exactly bad but were pretty sloppy and sounded half finished. It was decent enough, but I wanted more. I suspect the album may well disappoint, but I'd be first in the queue!! It'd be great just to hear some new product, and to stop the wretched 'Calling All Stations' being the last Genesis album...Ray Wilson is currently, and quite cheekily imo, touring at the moment in a show called 'The World Of Genesis' which features songs from throughout their career- a tall order considering he was only there for one album which few fans would ever class as being any kind of very good, let alone classic, album.
What I'd love to hear as much as a new Genesis album is a new one from Uriah Heep (make it proggy too, please- they've veered towards that direction on the last 2 albums, though the last one was almost 10 years ago!) and Yes, who if you don't count the half live 'Keys To Ascension' sets (which I didn't feel come close to their glory years bar 'Mind Drive'- another instance of a disappointment) haven't cut a proper studio album with the Anderson/Howe/White/Squire/Wakeman line up since the below par 'Tormato', way back in 1978! However, Genesis just win out...

I think it's too much to expect new product from them, but if they did perform 'The Lamb', I'd be first in the queue for tickets - hell, I'd remortgage my house & sell my cats for medical experiments; not so much to see 'The Lamb' (which isn't my favorite Gabriel/Genesis album), but just to see those guys on stage together... can you imagine the atmosphere at the gig?
...and lets face it, IF they do this, they will not be allowed off stage without playing at least some other material - as long as it doesn't involve Collins acting a complete @rse during 'I Know What I Like'...
