Finally "Sea Son" The best album in the catalogue of Danish fusion band Secret Oyster has been released on CD. Here's the official announcement from The Lasers Edge :

The Laser's Edge is pleased to release, for the first time on CD, the second album from the legendary Danish progressive jazz-rock supergroup Secret Oyster. "Sea Son" was originally released in 1974 on CBS and is now considered by many to be the pinnacle of the band's catalog. The fiery interplay between alto/soprano sax player Karsten Vogel, guitarist Claus Bohling and keyboardist Kenneth Knudsen parallel the work of their contemporaries Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra. With a new rhythm section of bassist Jess Staehr (Burnin Red Ivanhoe) and drummer Ole Streenberg (Coronarias Dans) the band found equal footing in the world of rock and jazz. The track "Mind Movie" offers nine minutes of pure psychedelic guitar driven fury from Bohling. In counterpoint a string quartet appears on "Painforest" presenting a mellower side to the band. Perhaps it's the constant tension between the rock and jazz genres and the band's ability to blend both seamless that is the reason for their success.

With the co-operation of the band, Sea Son features three previously unreleased bonus tracks and new liner notes from Karsten Vogel. Noted mastering engineer Bob Katz revitalized the original master tapes.

Glad to see you guys enjoying Danish jazz rock/fusion. Hope I'll get on to bringing more Danish Bands to PA (but when will I find time?!) - till then try http://www.geocities.com/piotrt.geo/index.html - Danish prog history (early period only) .

Kenneth Knudsen is probably the greatest (at least most prolific) prog musician in Denmark (though he've had to do lots of ordinary good studio work to make a living), but check-out the band mentioned before: Coronaria Dans, 1973 - rather free-form jazz-fusion. He also played with Anima (80's prog related vocal type - not for jazz-fans), Entrance (w. Palle Mikkelborg, Bo Stief, Kasper Winding) very high quality - some times compared with Weather Report. He played in Bombay Hotel (indo-prog) and Heart To Heart Trio (w. Mikkelborg and famous recently departed bass player NHØP (aka Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen))

Entrance's first selftitled album from 1977 - a masterpiece - is out on CD with "Live as well" as 'bonus tracks" - sold in a UK net store: http://www.netsoundsmusic.com/se/1618.shtml - Entrance . If you like electric jazz/Weather Report, this is a must!

prog on! Esben
