OK, I need to listen to these and determine whether or not I want to buy them. They're still within the wrapper, so which one should be breached?

try the first album first, though I think SLS is the better of the two.

And I wouldn't venture into a forum that I had no interest in. Funny how life operates, eh?

They are both okay, Out of Myself is more worth buying in my opinion.

Open them both and play them in steady rotation for a week and give your ears a treat.
They are both that good!

He never said which ones should he buy.His topic title is...."I just received both Riverside cds."

He asks..."Which one should I listen to first?"

So.....

Why not just listen to Out of Myself then Second Life Syndrome?

SLS is better, but both are great! Either one would be fine.

I loved OOM at first but after repeated listens found it to be pretty repetitive.  They really expanded their sound and improved a lot on SLS. IMHO

I want to open only one. The seller sent these to me by mistake after merely enquiring about them; however, in a pretty generous act of kindness, gave me permission to listen to them and decide whether or not I want them.

I believe I can get a good enough idea of how they are without opening both.

LOL
Wrong assumption E-Dub, I have an interest, and particularly I was interested what kind of reaction my little provocative suggestion would cause.  Do not treat it too seriously.
But if you want serious advice, I can tell you that I have not heard their first, but SLS sounds not too bad, but I am not totally overwhelmed by it. I'd say three stars album. Vocalist at times reminds me of Gildenlow and musically there are some Pain of Salvation moments - just milder. Nothing new or innovative in their music, and no touch of genius (as opposite to PoS) - pretty standard prog-metal, and much better that hundreds of other metal bands here in PA, but, again, we can't have masterpieces all the time. Enjoy which ever you open first.

My bad. My apologies.

I just listened to Out Of Myself and am a little underwhelmed. Just not into dark music. I'm going to give it another listen.

It's like the difference between the touch of class by Arsenal and Barcelona, perhaps you can make a choice after May 17th (Champions League Finale Football) if you consider Out Of Myself as Arsenal and Second Life Syndrome as Barcelona ...Wink .. !

Personally I am even more touched by Second Life Syndrome but both albums are outstanding progrock experiences Clap !

^^^I for one want Arsenal to win, But OOM - is doubtfully a winner over anything.
But maybe I'm biased - Arsenal used to be my favourite team, when I lived in North London

Out of Myself and Second Life Syndrome are respectively part one and two of what is about to become a conceptual Trilogy, so simply start with Out of myself Approve

It will be funny if you end up thinking: "Oh, well, I'd better followed the initial advice..."
LOL

Never mind please.
