With the reader of this post I would just like to share my enthusiasm obout Prog Archives site.As you can see, I'm a 'newbie' , relatively young Forum member , but in fact I'm 52 , already a proud grandfather and certainly an oldtimer among you. I was granted to be close onlooker at the earliest progressive rock emersion at the end of sixties and it happened to be in a country, regime and at the time when it was not easy to follow these rock chain of events; there was no rock press available, actual material was airplayed on radio stations with months of delay; with our demure devices  we were trying to register and keep the rhythm with flourishing progressive rock ongoings. But that was long time ago. What really surprises me and delights me today, is the fact that among Prog Archives specialists there are youngsters at the age of 17 or 18 whose high class reviews of e.g. King Crimson,Pink Floyd, Yes or Genesis earliest works are written embroidered with enchantment which recognizes and feels the spirit of that time of golden progressive rock period.Thereby, they affirm the undying value of progressive rock music, and not only the one from 'past archives' but also of today.Their youth, their enthusiasm is telling us that prog rock is an never ending story. So, let me end with one of Prog Archives collaborators' slogan : ''...keep on proggin...'' .God bless you.

Welcome to Prog Archives!

I'm 36 and I think it's wonderful that we have so many young contributors. The music we love clearly transcends generations through its brilliance.

52?  Hardly an oldtimer at a site which is so celebratory about the golden era of prog I would think...    Actually, considering that I wasn't born until '70, when joining this site I'd thought I'd be treated as one of the youngsters.  It is very nice to see such a wide age-range at this site.  Mind you, I've come to realise that the prog movement didn't end in the 70's  (maimed, perhaps, but not destroyed).  There's new 'prog' for new generations, and 'regressive' yet discerning ears continue to discover the prog classics. Clap

For me in my latter 30s, I'm discovering and re-discovering all sorts of 70s prog gems. I still don't know what to make of the whole prog metal genre, but I'm still very young to that kind of music.

I'd welcome you as a newbie, but seems you've been a member for a much longer time than I have (though you have a respectably lower post count here than I as lazy I tend to lean towards quantity over quality).

When I joined I must admit I thought I would be in the minority (I'm 19) but the age range really surprised me, in my opinion its great that so many people of different ages, nationality etc are all brought together by a love of good music.

To be honest this forum is one of the few places that I've found where I'm able to talk about my favourite type of music, particualarlly since most of my friends just don't understand why I like prog, and in one case going as far as saying that the musicians can't play or write music (that came from someone who only listens to rap and pop).

I'm actually very envious of the older members because many of them saw a lot of the great bands live when they were at their peak which is something I doubt I'll ever experience.

I'll wrap this up by saying that without this website I wouldn't have discovered a lot of fantastic music.

So thanks to everyone who contributes to this fantastic site.

As a 16 year old, I couldn't agree more.

Interesting history? Sorry to disappoint you but I started listening to prog via the relativley conservative route of classic rock (but I have gone from Led Zep to VDGG in about 6 months).

As for my personal life that is just dull and uninspiring. Wink

Welcome, Bsurmano!

Most definitely one of the great aspects of this site: that all people, whatever age (I'm quite an old fart myself Embarrassed) share their deep love of MUSIC here!

i'm a young 53, and i follow many latter day/new bands as well as the old ones (in other genres as well besides prog) and i'm envious that young people will see how rock music will be in 40 years time when i'm pushin' up the daisies! will it be the same, or totally different with new styles of music?

Thats true but to be honest I'm not sure that rock music has a bright future, yes there are a few talented bands around but the record companies are the problem, they want instant sales and aren't prepared to let a band develop their own style over several albums.
