I like both Jazz (Jazz-Funk) and Classical a lot. I have been more into jazz/funk/fusion because of John Scofield (being my favorite compositional gutiarist) but classical music like Arnold Scheonberg and his serial style of playing has always kept me readily interested in the classical genre beyond the greatness of Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, and others.

Damn, I didn't read the first post with the question. I just read the "which way do you lean?" so I voted for jazz because I love jazz music and just sort of like classical. But after reading the real question, I would have to vote for classical.

I like some jazzy-fusion bands, but the jazzier groups like Weather Report aren't my fav. The classical influence is sometimes bad represented for the cheesy use of strings (listen to The New Trolls), but the groups that made it right (Yes, Moody Blues, Early KC) compense the others that just ruins it.
------------- Bach, Ma, Bros, Déia, Dante.

woops I voted classical but I didn't read the question right. I actually think I prefer Jazz influences in prog, though I prefer to listen to classical over Jazz ususally (kind of wierd eh?).

Probably jazz moreso, but I do like them both.
That being said, if you listen to Pat Metheny's Secret Story, you will realize that a fusion of both classical and jazz (and other influences as well) work very well in the same context.

Both - Jazz styles and Classical music influences are both essential ingredients in the progressive music mix, even in some prog metal!

I think prog is what it is because it more or less reduced improvisation in favour of thought out classical structure.
That's why it's different from extended psych jams. Jazz perfected the art of improvisation and virtuosity.
I like both but I slightly prefer classical because too much emphasis
on virtuosity and spontaneousness noodling says not much to me. But
some jazz music has that same sense of timeless as classical.
I like all epochs of classical music and I think also Mozart, Beethoven
and Bach, "ice cream" or not, are all timeless masters. Why not
listenable and beautiful at the same time?? What modern music will
become classical? Time will tell...

Jazz. Pink Floyd made wonderful use of Jazz and Blues, and I have some Jazz-Rock. Whereas the only band that I like (that I can think of anyway) that used Classical is ELP, but I'm starting to get tired of them. I do like Relayer, but that's Yes' Jazz album. (THANK YOU MORAZ!) And I can't stand CTTE, so I can't say that I really like them.
However, I voted Both for some reason, so please take that into account. :)

Classical music.
I tried to like Jazz but failed. It's soulless and pointless to my ears.

I lean both ways too. At first I preferred classical influences, but with time I've learnt to appreciate jazz influences. Nowadays I tend to listen to quite a bit of jazz-rock and I'm getting more and more into it. Besides those two, I also like medieval, Renaissance and all kinds of ethnic influences.

I'm not the only one then! I especially can't stand that be-bop jazz. I'm always amazed when people praise the complexity of jazz. I tell you endless ii-V7-I chords progressions are not that interesting. I don't care how many keys they go through or how fast their licks are, it still sounds like crap. All the tritone substitutions in the world don't seem to help it. Now a fugue, or a canon, or an isorythmic motet, that's impressive! And I'd much rather hear those things in prog. One thing about jazz I like though are the harmonizations, they do have some pretty sweet chords.
You know, another poll of interest might be one in which one chooses between the classical periods. I might have to set that one up.
