i didnt say they are bad bands, but the sound is retouched, modified, very very very perfected

nowadays bands like marillion,iq or pendragon make better sound IMO

I happen to like every band Violator has mentioned (with Marillion being my favorite); however, I'm a bit confused on the root question as well. Transatlantic are one of the most live sounding bands I've ever heard.

I don't understand what you say. Those bands make real music without computers or sequencers. The Flower Kings, for example, is a good band when playing live, as they use to jam and play improvised guitar and keyboard solos, etc. They use real bass and real drums, not drum machines. They even use to play vintage analog keyboards instead of digital ones ¿Where do you see the "programmed music"? The same I can say with Transatlantic. Dream Theater use digital keyboards, but they play it also in the traditional way.

And if you ask me, Pendragon's music sounds less "natural" to me than these bands, and less diverse. Not to mention Marillion, who have used some drum machines in their last albums.

If you think any of these bands don't spend just as much time on studio production as the bands you take issue with...

you're fooling yourself.

well, i understand it, you dont understand it

And I have to add that The Flower Kings use to release an album every year, and the singer and guitarist also releases solo albums and plays in other bands. They obviously son't spend any time on studio production. They just play music without much production.

The Flower Kings have never ever used "drums like samplers". In fact they always had tremendously good drummers ... you shouldn't confuse precision and programming.

BTW: I dare you to watch their live DVD and then tell me that you still stand by your initial statement.

Very strange reasoning.

You think bands like Transatlantic,TFK and Dream Theater sound too polished but the neo bands you like aren't?

Neo is some of the most polished, sterile sounding music I have ever heard here.

We do understand what you mean, but the drums aren't fake in those bands, and the keyboards definitely aren't either.

I understand what he means a bit I think. Either way, I don't like Portnoy's drumming either - it sounds the same a lot and I can imagine how someone'd think it's sampled.

Violator: Could you please explain more?, i don't understand what you mean by overnatural music, i use to say that something is overnatural when is so complex and hard to play that it is unbelivable that human beings made that. But surely you don't mean that, also you don't mean that the drumming is made by samplers because the bands you mentioned as "not overnatural" use more samplers than Transatlantic, DT or TFK.

The bands you like are not jam/improvisional like the bands you don't like.

Some DT, Flower King and Transatlantic material tenders to meander. Some Marillion, Pendragon and IQ material tends to be pop song formulaic.

There is good and bad in both.

Those bands are 100% natural and excelent bands, very skillfull, you should watch them in live so you gonna know what I mean, that sound comes from real humans.

they sound perfectly natural to me, i can't really understand what point you are trying to make, perhaps you mean the recording and mastering sounds sometimes may sound digital? many mainstream pop groups  could possibly be accused of that, but dream theater, i don't think so!

"i cant understand why a lot of people of this site like these bands Dead"

I'm guessing you haven't actually seen TMV live? I've _never_ seen that much equipment on one stage. Their sound engineers must have giant ulcers! LOL

Both The Flower Kings and Dream Theater are perfectionist bands, they try to sound the same on stage as in the studio (Dream Theater more than The Flower Kings).

That's neither good nor bad. If you want a band that does more improvising or plays their songs differently each night, you simply shouldn't go to a Dream Theater concert.

^ Well, they do have some improvisation - like the Instrumedley or the different solos (keys/guitar/drums) on Live at Budokan. But I agree that these sound quite "overnatural".

When i saw Live At Budokan for the first time i said "wow, Overnatural" . But i said that because they was playing in an unbealivable skillfull way, i don't like much Portnoy's drumming style, i prefer a more jazzy style of drumming, but in Live At Budokan, Portoy's performance was Enormusly Amazing. Myung is another overnatural player, he never makes a mistake.
