Today's punk rock with that label "power pop" or "punk-pop" like Simple Plan, Good Charllotte or Avril Lavigne.

I would have voted for it.

yeah hard list to pick from. i generally preach acceptance and tolerance of all musical styles but some of these are just impossible.

my personal vote goes to hip hop although nu-metal is a close second.

and today's punk?
im a huge punk fan and i hate to say it but labeling what's going on today(like avril,  simple plan, yellowcard, good charlotte, and all that emo stuff) as any kind of "punk" is offending. Please just leave today's music as pop and not pop-punk cause its really not punk at all

Rap isn't a separate genre. It's just a style of singing used in hip hop.

I could not agree more.  This is the most generic of all musical styles and i really hate bands like Korn and Nickleback, especially when some man sees me wearing wearing a Porcupine Tree shirt and he's wearing a Nickleback shirt and he says to me that he's never heard of PT, which not alot of people have, and that Nickleback is the greatest rock band the world has ever seen.  It's people like this that aggrevate me the most.  They've never heard a band and they just assume it's crap.  Well F*** you too.

I can't actually say I can't stand Hip Hop - because I haven't listened to much of it. The stuff they play on MTV does not interest me in the least.
I imagine that if I were to listen, I might find some value in the genre - but I'm not going out of my way to find out.
Country - now there's a genre I can't stand. Mostly excellent musicians playing standard my Baby left me junk designed to sell CD's - how's that for a stereotype?

Techno music in general (including jungle or acid house) is the wost , but all dance pop music since the the mid-80's aggravate me.

I much prefer a bit of rap (some French rap is actually good and Eminem for some strange reason does not leave stonecold) than any kind of Techno dance stuff

But is Hip Hop not rap music of sortsConfused?

Everything mentioned up is absolute crap, it's hard to choose.
These days, there's something atrocious here, a female rap "singer": horrible voice, no music, idiot and incomprehensible lyrics (without the written text)...
This poor girl imitates his sad male holligans fellows.
With such sh**t, don't be surprised that today some young people (especially those from the suburb) are completly idiot, with such a sub culture..sad time

That's a good thing.

I like some of the more progressive kinds of Hip-Hop, and Rap isn't really much of a genre in my eyes. I see as much point as having these two as seperate categories as having Black Metal and an additional genres called Blastbeating and Shrieking. Nevermind.

Furthermore, it needs to be pointed out that this thread is full of ignorance. Good Charlotte and Green Day are not Punk groups. They're not Emo either, and probably whatever is Emo in your perception is not Emo either.

That being said, I absolutely hate almost dance oriented pop and some of the electronic music sub genres annoy me, yet I still have a few favourites.

I see country is also much hated here, and I am fortunate to say that I have NEVER heard a single country song in my life, thankfully to my location, I guess. You get exposed to different kinds of crap here. What I know is that there is a totally awesome alternative group called 'Wilco' and I really like them. I hear people calling them country, so I suggest all of the people who hate country to check them out.

Pretty much all of these styles (including country) include artists who maintain at least some level of integrity...

Just wondering... doesn't every country in the world have:

1) its own special brand of dance music, which is scoffed at even by the majority of the mainstream acts?

2) And a 'nostalgia' kind of stuff, usually aimed at an adult audience, basically something to sing while you're getting wasted?

Poland has these two 'styles', and I'd say they're the worst stuff imaginable, mainly because they exclude any sort of ambition by their very intent.

Does Reggaeton fall under 1?

I can't tell if you are kidding or not, coming from an Argentinean and all, but anyway, check out Chambao 2002 ‘Flamenco Chill’ – one of the most beautiful albums I’ve ever heard, if you can. Although generally I am not myself a Latin music fan, it is all in the delivery…
