Neil Peart has posted an update on the progress of the new Rush album on his site:

Neil Peart on his site wrote:
... We gathered before the fire in the living room and started listening. As the songs played out, the response we all shared was a sense of clarity - for Alex and Geddy, playing the songs for me that first time threw their strengths and weaknesses into sharp contrast, and they kept saying things like, "I know what we have to do here." Same for me, lyrically - I was very gratified to hear parts that worked, saying "Yeah" when I heard Geddy sing a line just perfectly, while also knowing right away what I could improve upon.
There were five song sketches - guitar, vocals, and drum machine - and I liked them all. I also noticed those songs already seemed to have a sort of unity, a stylistic approach of chord structures, rhythms, and vocal delivery that I could only describe as "spiritual." I'll say no more about that aspect until we get farther into it, but it was wonderful that after thirty years of working together, we could still find different paths to explore together. ... |
Sounds exciting.
Thanks also to my friends at the Counterparts Rush Forum for the heads up!

Excellent news.
The word 'spiritual' makes me smile.
And I just love Mr. Peart's writing style.

I bet they screw it up again , for the past 20 years they are getting good at that , I`ll wait a month till after it is released and (due to bias ratings) if its under 4 stars on average I will assume they have screwed it up again. I won`t get it not falling for that trick again ! I have heard enough of a decline with Test for Echo & Vapor Trails and those were enough for me to conclude that Rush don`t have the synergy or the inclination to be a top prog band anymore !
I get even more fed up with "die hard" Rush fans calling "Mutton" "Lamb" than I do with Rush's floundering efforts. Just so long as the Fanboys can keep it together this time and rate honestly & fair Please ! (but I doubt they will)

I hope it will be great!!!
I'm optmistic in old stars since I ve heard new Saga album "Trust" which is a gem and a incredible surprise for this band thathas realeased nothing very interesting for years! And then a miracle out of nowhere :)
So why Rush won't suprise me too!

El Böthy, you are a Pesimist...
Sorry, but I think their 80s, 90s and today's material is just awesome ...

Sounds exciting... VAPOR TRAILS was an excellent album buried under a botched production job. Still, there were some quality tracks on it, like "Earthshine" and "One Little Victory." Also, the FEEDBACK EP perhaps suggests that the band is in an "old school" frame of mind... we can of course only wait and see, although I don't think I've ever truly been disappointed with anything this band has done.
