This is one of the most creative songs I have ever heard from Progressive Metal! Seriously, it blends death metal with electronica, prog rock, mellow parts, some jazz fusion, and they even have a fretless bass player! The unique part of it is that it is really tight, coherent, and the genres fuse seamlessly. I listened to it like 10 times today.

Is the album as good as this track?

Yes. If you liked it, I think the whole album will appeal to you. Each song is memorable and special, especially Veil of Maya, Celestial Voyage (brilliant), I'm but a wave to and How Could I.

I really enjoyed the album but it gets old after a few listens. The musicianship is nuts though.

I prefer Atheist, Spiral Architect and Theory In Practice to these guys, for some reasons they don't have an appeal to me.

I'm not sure why you are surprised, fretless bass players are common place in progmetal, really.

It's a shame they never recorded more than one album.

Somewhere I have in my possession an early rough demo of theirs, with Paul Masvidal on vocals before he tore his throat up.

Most certainly.  One of the best prog metal albums of all time, maybe highlighted even more because it's the only one the band ever did.  If you enjoyed the bass player, also check out Gordian Knot.

Get Focus, it is highly recommended!  ClapClapClap

I highly recommend the album. Though the robot vocals and the rather muddy production drags it a bit down (IMO, of course) Still highly enjoyable.

Thirded.Wink

Malone and Reinart are one of the best rhythm sections EVER.
