ok, sometimes we are discussing these two bands, but we never get how is better by rating,
so for the ones who are about to vote, think of the best album of each band (in your opinion), and then vote.
write the albums that you have in mind, or just think it.

mine is:
Dream Theater: Images and Words   v.s.    Pain of Salvation: The Perfect Element
ill go with images and words.

I still can't get how Dream Theater music is created by humans

Dream Theater in Monterrey, Mexico   03.03.06   Unforgettable

^ If you set it like this, I have no option than to say I&W

Pain of Salvation, because their album is much more daring and innovative. But it's like comparing two skyscraper sized giants who differ in size by a few meters.LOL

Dream Theater is lighter and more melodic, but PoS is alright once in awhile.

DT: Best albums of the 90's
POS: Best albums of the 00's (so far)

DT has the best #1 album between the two... though I can rarely decide their #1 albums in my mind. I&W/Awake/SFAM > TPE/RL

I only prefer DT because they have more varied emotions than the always depressing and sad PoS. ...But if it is compared to the best album of each band...

I'll go with PoS.

I love Images and Words alot (wait for sleep/learning to live will always have a place in my heart) and Its my favorite album from my favorite prog metal band. But nothing that Dream Theater ever made can compare to the masterpiece and wonderful work of art that is Be.

I'll take DT.  I'd put SDoIT or Awake as their best album aginst BE or Entropia from PoS.  I think DT has just a little more substance to their albums.  PoS has quite a few songs on their albums which really don't have musical value.

The depth of composing in DT is much better than that of PoS.  The main issue here being keyboards.  Jordan Rudess and Kevin Moore are not by much, but a more integral part of their band than Hermansson is of his.

I think the true greatness of both bands also shows in the fact that there is no concensus among fans which albums are their best.

Entropia, Remedy Lane, 12:5, Be and Be live are all better than Scenes imo. I love DT though.

PoS by far! They are just so genious in creating concepts
full of deep emotional greatness, awesme melodies as well
as profound and well-thought lyrics.

DT is more melodic, more expressive. SFAM beats all POS albums together.
