Now that Octavarium has been out for over a year, which album is more to your liking?
I think Octavarium is way ahead. I didnīt really take to Train at all.

They come very close for me but I choose Octavarium only because of the variety in sound. It would be nice if we could mix the best songs from those 2 albums to make 1 super good one. Imagine In the name of god, This dying soul, Panic atack, Octavarium, Stream of conciousness and others in one album! I'd say :  -------------

Train of Thought is my favorite as a whole, but some of Octavarium's material, primarily the last two songs, is fantastic. Those ending tracks are among their finest songs, and possibly my favorite point between both albums (at least right now). ------------- www.last.fm/user/ThisCenotaph

| hard to choose. I liked Train of thought but it was a little too metal and soloy for my taste, so I'll have to go with Octavarium, which is a little bit softer & more melodic. I think in octavarium DT has a little less soloing than usual, which makes it more listenable, though I could do without the modern influences (I walk beside you). |

I thought ToT had some very strong moments but also some very weak moments, 8V even though more commercial sounding had more better songs on it, the title track won this with ease ------------- Progressive: Intelligent music for intelligent people. |

At this moment ToT wins this one for me. I think that that album was the only one from DT so far I didn't have to get used to. I sounded excatly the way I wanted it to sound. Octavarum is crap compared to TOT, IMO. Octavarium: 3 or 3.5/5

I own both and routinely listen to neither. These albums, to me, represent the beginning of the end for Dream Theater. Lack of originality, uninspired lyrics, ripoffs galore all over the place... Well...we're talking about Progressive, and so I chose Octavarium, cause I think that Train Of Thought isn't so much prog....it's more like a sheer Metal album...the only prog influence on it in my opinion are on tracks: Vacant and In the name of God.... ------------- ]

When I listen to a pure metal album in comparison - for example the latest Bruce Dickinson album or even Judas Priest, In Flames, whatever ... then I do hear an apparent difference. I'll have to go with Octavarium. There is some good matierial on Train of Thought, but nothing in particular stands out the way Octavarium and Sacraficed Sons do. Octavarium also has some great tracks in Never Enough, The Root of All Evil, and These Walls.
Of course In the Name of God and Stream of Conciousness are great tunes, but they just seem to be weak compared to other DT tracks of that same calibur. -------------
