Of course The Beatles weren't prog in a genre sense, but they were progressive.

I would probably give it a tie btween A Day In The Life and Strawberry Fields.

For some reason I'm not allowed to vote in this poll, but I would probably go for "A day in the life".

That's the same song that came to my mind as well...Also:

The sound track bits between songs on Help!
I'm Only Sleeping
She Said She Said
Blue Jay Way
Only A Northern Song
Glass Onion
The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill

And the grand daddy:

Revolution 9

Just to throw this in, my favorite all-time Beatles track is I've Got A Feeling...

My vote went to Strawberry Fields.

To main error is not consider Beatles prog because of the short songs. Progressive rock is an AOR genre, so the whole records should be considered.

If anybody votes for You Know My Name (Look Up the Number), they should be kicked off this site.

Shame, I like YKMN (LUTN), especially the Anthologies version. Not prog though.

Where is Revolution 9?

If it was in that poll, that would get my vote. Out of those listed, I pick A Day in the Life.

I think Revolution #9 isn't there because the title of the thread is "What Beatle song was the most prog?" and it's just a collection of noises.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun is a very prog song, in the fact that it changes to keep itsself interesting. A Day In The Life is probably more influential on prog though.

"Happiness is a Warm Gun" has the most progressive structure. It's the best song you can use to counter any 'Beatles weren't prog' arguments.

the only thing that's progressive about Revolution #9 is that it's on a Beatles record. otherwise it's just a slab of concréte. I'll vote for Walrus here, ulk

I must agree. I've never considered "Revolution #9" an actual song. It's more of a piece of performance art.

I voted for Strawberry Fileds only because I prefer the flip side of the single  - Penny Lane. Check the vocal & melodic inflections & see if you can find things that Peter Gabriel would build on with Genesis.
