I was at Easter Mass today, and as communion was being handed out, the
organ and chimes played an instrumental piece that sounded strikingly
familiar to me. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it was
the main theme from One by Neal Morse (heard in almost every song on
that album, most notably in The Creation and Reunion)! Does anybody
know what this song is called? I'm not entirely sure what I think about
the fact that Mr. Morse used an existing song as a repeating musical
theme on one of his albums, but it was still really cool to hear .
I think in the end it's an appropriate song for him to use, considering
the lyrical theme of the album and the association with the theme of
rebirth and Easter. Kudos to him for using it, although I think it
would have been nice if he had cited the original piece more obviously.

Might it not be possible that someone knowing Neal Morse and knowing that he's a deeply religious musician has used his tune in church?

There are not many albums that I have listened to more than Morse's One album. It is easily one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. Yet I have no idea what you are referring to when you say that there is a specific theme that appears throughout the album. In fact, I cannot think of any parts of The Creation and Reunion that are even similar. I am very interested in this if there is indeed a musical cornerstone on which some of the songs on that album are based.

The three prog releases by Neal Morse are good and you won't be disappointed. But if I had to rate them it would be in this order:
1- Testimony.
2- ?
3- One
Very good album anyway. The only bad thing to say about it is that there are a couple of melodies on that album that sound like "deja-vu", perhaps they are similar to something he has used previously on the Spock's Beard or the Transatlantic albums, although I don't know exactly. But I insist, One is a very good album anyway.

If you like ?, then I would highly recommend ONE. Songs like The Creation, The Separated Man, Author of Confusion and Help Me/The Spirit and the Flesh are just great prog music.

Wow...I re-listened to these two songs and now I know what theme you are referring to. Interestingly enough, the theme occurs right at the 7:00 mark of both The Creation and Reunion. It is a beautiful melody.

Not at this mass, since the music was strictly traditional (normally
they play more contemporary songs, but, for some reason, the music
ministry decided to go completely traditional this Sunday). It's not
like they just played Neal Morse's songs anyways; they were just
playing an old church song in which one of the main melodies was the
very same one found on Neal Morse's album. I'm not surprised that Neal
based some of his music on traditional Christian music, and I'm sure
he's given credit where it was due... I just thought it was really neat
to hear those few seconds of familiar music repeated a few times at
church.
