geez, you left out so many! Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General, Diamond Head, Holocaust, Raven, Tank, Fist, Legend, Quartz, Blitzkrieg, Aragorn, Cloven Hoof, Warfare, Satan, etc

Venom too I suppose, but thats more early black/thrash/speed metal,

Where the hell is Judas Priest? Not that I like them but if you're gonna talk NWOBHM, I think Priest HAS to be there...

Of the list, Leppard... prefer poppy yet melodic songs rather than noisy pure-speed numbers

Saxon were great! I was lucky enough to have seen them in a small club in Southern California around 1987, They were brilliant.

Angelwitch's first album was a milestone in NWOBHM and inluenced almost everyone. Also, Viv Campbell's first band out of Ireland, Sweet Savage, were ass kickers.

Considering Priest have been going since the very early 1970s you cannot lump them in with the NWOBHM; indeed, many of the bands who emerged in 1979 or so (including Maiden) got their first major breaks supporting Priest, who were by then, already well seasoned & a major act (just don't ask them for a sound check ).

Of those listed above, I'd say Saxon - of those not listed, I'd go with Quartz.

I remember seeing the Tygers Of Pan Tang and Angelwitch supporting Magnum at St Albans City Hall back in 1981(ish) - now that was a gig.

Somewhere, I still have the 7" vinyl of the Tygers' version of "love potion number 9" - superb!

Angel Witch rules !

Their first albums are unknown gems ! Just amazing !
Efficient guitar riffs with catchy melodies and powerful epic vocals.

A must for Iron Maiden and Diamond Head lovers.
It's a pity they have not last too long.

Def Leppard is in my opinion less metal, more hard rock.

My second favorite : Saxon

I said in a previous thread that Def Leppard were one of the bands that spearheaded the NWOBHM with their excellent debut "On Through the Night".Their importance to that movement should not be minimalized,no matter how their music turned out later on.

Diamond Head. I suppose my favourite type of Metal came about mostly thanks to Witchfinder General and various Sabbath imitators.

I also like the american heavy metal scene circa NWOBHM that included such luminaries as Cirith Ungol and Manilla Road.
