This is my first poll, so I apologise if I got something wrong. I also apologise for the limited choice, but I listed those bassists/vocalists whom I know best, so there may be quite a few important names missing. Some of the names may not be considered prog, though they are quite well-known and respected musicians. Feel free to add your own choices, if you like.

Well, he may not be prog, but my vote goes to the mighty tonsils and skillful fingers of Glenn Hughes, the Voice of Rock himself. After him, Lake and Sinclair, then many people's pet hate, Geddy Lee himself.

My favourite what? Bass player? Singer? Or brilliant-musician-and-all-round-good-egg?

Chris Squire is the best bassist on the list. He also sings pretty well too. Roger Waters plays bass and sings. He does neither as well as Chris Squire. Yet Waters has created some of the best music on the planet (aside from Floyd, his 'Amused To Death' is stunning).

For this reason I gotta go for Roger Waters

I always wondered what Geddy Lee can play while singing sometimes, so my choice goes to him.

John Wetton

I will go with John Wetton in the Crimson era. His bass playing was fantastic
and I'm a big fan of his raw and unpolished voice during that time.

Tricky to judge...if I went for best bass player the answer would be Squire; but the emphasis of the question seems to be whose the best singer that also plays bass...in which case I would say its Greg Lake.

I missed Riverside's wonderful musician Mairusz Duda in this poll - not only a great bass player, but just as good a singer as well - and besides this, he's also the band's main composer!

So, despite how much I love Geddy Lee and Chris Squire, my vote was for 'other'

I'd go for Greg Lake from this list, great voice, great bassist and he had Emerson's keyboards to contend with.

That said, I deeply respect ANYONE who actually manages to sing and play bass all at one time... it's a very tough job indeed!

I voted for John Wetton... I really like Geddy Lee but I think that the performance of Mr. Wetton during his Crimson era and then after with UK and even Asia, were really great...

Tough call with all of the top four proving good choices, but I'm going to have to go further down the list and take Sinclair.

From that list, John Wetton (specifically for Crimson 1983-75).

You could also include Mont Campbell (Egg) and John Greaves (Henry Cow, National Health, solo).

Both John Wetton and Chris Squire are fabulous bassplayers who sings good. Still my vote goes to Roger Waters, whos bassplaying and singing is solid, but not spectacular in any way. Taking in his composingskills he is my winner.

What about PETE TREWAVAS?

I think he's a good bassist and sings quite good as well.

Greg Lake, but Jack Bruce is pretty awesome too.

Although Wetton and Lake are surely high quality bassists/vocalists my vote goes to their predecessor Jack Bruce.

For overall playing/singing, I went with Wetton. But as far as skills on bass, Geddy Lee and Chris Squire beat him out.

For the combination of singing and bass playing I picked Greg Lake.

Geddy Lee is obviously eons beyond anybody as far as singing and playing bass.  It's no contest.  Squire and Wetton are great, but Geddy is a phenomenon.

^^^I have an idea. Lets string Geddy up by his balls and see just how high he can really sing.

Chris squire and Geddy lee.  I love Wetton's bass playing but im not to fond of his voice.  Imo Larks' Tongues would be a lot better if he had less strained voice.

Sorry about that, but I have to admit I have a weakness for singers who can actually SING... Lemmy is a rock icon, no doubt about that, but I'm not a fan of either his voice or his way of playing bass.

Geddy followed by Lemmy!!

I voted on Wetton but I'm happy seeing Mariusz Duda here (really nice guy - I talked to him lately before Riverside's gig in Cracow) and don't forget about Colin 'the same name' BASS.

I love Greg Lake, he's brilliant. The rest are so good aswel, some are much better than him as Bassists or Vocalists, but I am very fond of him, I cant explain why. I just love his playing and singing so much and I really cant put my hand on the reason....

Tough choice here.  I voted for Lake, but Geddy and Waters aren't too far behind.
