I've got it in my head that these two solos compliment one another in
some fashion. But I'm not sure how. They are two of the greatest solos I've heard, inlcuding all the classic rock favorites. Starship Troopers at least gets some fair recognition; The Knife is horribly unknown. But aside from their relative fame, which solo do you like more? |

The Knife is great, but Starship Trooper has one of the best guitar solos ever! I also like the live version on Keys To Ascension where Howe and Wakeman share the solos. Also on Yessongs, but Keys is much better.

I like Knife as a whole song much more than Starship trooper, however must admit that particularly solo in the latest is a bit better. ------------- carefulwiththataxe |

Hackett didn't play on the studio version, that was Ant Phillips. Starship Trooper still takes the cake for me, though. -------------

I will have to agree with the majority of the posters and say Starship Troopers. Everyone else has posted decent reasons why, so I really have nothing else to add to the existing comments.

ditto.. and the live version does smoke the studio version of The Knife. Alright, I'll admit that the outcome was rather predictable. I fall into the
same category of 'The Knife is absolutely stellar, but...' the Starship Troopers' solo is in a league almost to its own. I guess I wanted to raise awareness to the great solo in the Knife, but I'm preaching to the choir. |

Hackett's solo in the live version of "The Knife" has for some reason always been my favourite guitar solo.
