Levin was most talented, and he was also incredibly original and innovative.

Wetton's bass is very impressive as well, he can make his bass howl like some incredible beast, but he lacks Levin's precision.

I like Levin, Gunn, and Wetton out of the ones mentioned, can't choose a favorite.

Gunn's work I thought would've made things much more interesting had he worked more with his actual guitar side of the Warr Guitar like at the end of The Deception Of The Thrush.  I'm sad to see him go, as I thought he was just getting started, but then again, like when I met him in California as part of a convention, he told me he needed a change, been playing within Fripp for 10+ years.

Wetton's had his time, and its clearly gone and over (if you ask me)...Levin's material on the other hand will always be great and I forward to Crimson Line-Up 8 soon!

I felt like Wettons' work on Crimso'...(Especially Starless) had a Jam Band Vibe to his Bass playing wich was a really nice change from the Previous Bassists. My Vote goes to him. But it is Quite a hard one.

Wetton...no contest. His bass playing brought some stability & melody to an otherwise chaotic sound!

Wetton and Levin. The latter is probably the best of the lot, but then I prefer what KC did with Wetton (though Discipline is a great album). BTW, there is one bass player missing from this list... On In the Wake of Poseidon, the bassist was not Lake (who only did the vocal parts), but rather Peter Giles, drummer Mike Giles's brother.

The evil screams Wetton produced on Fracture
during the blitzkrieg part are pure cathartic bliss. I
have never heard a bass sound anything like it
before or since.

I love Wetton the most but as a bass player he is far worse than Levin and Gunn.
Gunn has a better musical taste than Levin, though.

Levin is a kind of a perfect machine. He can play everything, and it seems that it doesn't matter for him if it's KC or Seal.

Yea, but can Wetton or Lake play the Stick? How about those Funk
Fingers, you know the drum sticks that Levin tapes to his fingers and
plays with them?

Levin is so talented, creative and seems like a really nice guy!

I Pick Tony Levin!!

Don't be fooled by the gimmickry. Any decent bass player could play funk & with a stick.

Bass playing skills alone, not including vocals, I vote for Mr. Wetton.  It's close though between him and Mr. Lake.
