Okay, here's a story that happened to a friend of mine:

A few years ago, U2 gave a series of outdoor shows in London, but one of the scheduled shows was an indoor show (don't know where) that sold out instantly.

My friend "blagged" (his word) his way into the show and took a seat in the balcony front and center. As the seats around him began to fill up, he noticed Peter Gabriel and a young woman in the aisle talking with an attendant and pointing in his direction. Gabriel was looking angrily over at my friend and gesticulating in a manner that suggested that my friend was in his seat.

In an attempt to act innocent of the whole affair, my friend turned to the person behind him, who happened to be David Gilmour, and said, "Is someone in that person's seat or something?"

To which Gilmour smiled and leaned down and replied, "No, someone isn't in his seat, but someone else is."

After a few moments, the attendant reseated Gabriel and the woman in another section not too far off. And Gabriel gave him angry looks thoughout the show.

Well, I must say I'm a bit disappointed to hear that Peter Gabriel attended a U2 concert.

Well, maybe Gabriel met Bono at a daycare center or something, and so he was going out of politeness...

heh heh ... if you look far back enough you'll see the story of me getting scolded by Phil Collins during an interview "I don't think I'm doing the same ol' s**t everytime" said the great man!

Your friends was sitting at Peter Gabriel's place, while David Gilmour was behind him. Did Peter Hammil sit next to him, and did he ask Robert Fripp if he could sit a bit lower as he was sitting in front of him, too?

Sarcasm! Funny!

But seriously, from what I understand, this indoor show was attended by many british rock glitterati. My friend is many things, but he is not a liar...

Actually it was Jon Anderson in front of him so he had an unobstructed view of the stage!  And Gilmour was there because of a bet.  He lost.

Of course it's true. Why wouldn't artists want to go to a concert? Some of
them are real people, you know. They enjoy a good gig. They even post on
forums.

And, as much as I respect BaldFriede's opinion on prog-related matters, I
often end up sighing at the snobbery. Have U2 simply sold too many records
to be considered good? Thank goodness the artists we like paint from a
larger palette than we do!

Yeah I like how he conveniently didn't bring a camera to a U2 show.  Also if I saw Gilmour sitting right behind me you better be sure that I would get his autograph.  Did he, or was there conveniently not any paper and pen in sight?

Actually, he snuck in a video camera and taped the show!

And being from the United States (and the west coast at that), it seems an unlikely occurrance to me too. But this is London, and this show was some sort of special gig. Does anyone from England remember a recent tour where U2 played a series of outdoor shows in London, but one indoor gig?

ClapRight on! I like Gabriel and U2.Thumbs UpThumbs Up

So there -- sue me. Stern Smile

(BTW, I would certainly move for Gabriel, especially if I was in the wrong. It would also be a good chance to meet him. There's no excuse for selfishness like that.)

When I go to a concert I have yet to bring pen or paper, nor would I bring a camera, so there.

Why wouldn't this story be true? Really weird things do happen, a lot weirder
than that. These old dudes aren't gods, after all. They can be seen and
touched.
