The first time I listened to it, was recently. I bought it used on vinyl. The
songs are amazing. And they seem to fit the mood of each story completely.
It would always be my dream come true if they made a sequel where they
had songs about The Purloined Letter, The Pit and the Pendulum, The
Oblong Box, The Masque of the Red Death, and so on....oh well.
But it is my favorite Alan Parsons album, just above I Robot.

I prefer Pyramid to I Robot (Can't take it with you, In the Lap of the Gods ).

I love the first side (vinyl) but couldn't work out the second side at all . I'm not familiar with Poe's work. That last hippy track just didn't seem to fit the rest of the concept but even the music on the second side didn't seem anything special. Personally I think I enjoyed Eye in the Sky and Turn of a friendly Card the most. I rate good pop above muddled prog.

In the lap of the Gods is an awesome track.

After reading The Fall of the House of Usher, and reading certain parts over
again, I started to get the Alan Parsons instrumental. As for the last song, I
could not understand why that was a Poe story. "The Fall of the House of
Usher" is not muddled prog, I don't think, I just think you have to
understand Poe to get it without any lyrics. Anyway, I understood it, for the
most part.

I really like Pyramid as well,  partial to I Robot however but agree with Ivan who's  posted on the subject before .. after these 3....

I did as well.. but I grew up with a Poe book in one hand (and the Foundation series in the other hahahha). If I had a third hand if would have been a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.  . This Side of Paradise ...

My favorite song, though, even though "The Fall of the House of Usher" is
amazing, would be either "A Dream Within A Dream" or "The Cask of
Amontillado". All the songs are great, though, so I can't compare.

I remember listening to Fall of the House of Usher in me bed. Near crapped me self    It is a great album though. I prefer the original mix to the one now available on CD.

There actually is a follow-up album. Eric Woolfson (long time Parsons Project collaborator - in fact, if it hadn't been for Parsons fame at the time, the Project could easily have taken on Woolfson's name) released "Poe - More Tales Of Mystery And Imagination" in 2004.

As a BIG Parsons Project fan, I looked forward to that album with great anticipation, but I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed in it. Woolfson went more for the "stage musical" type approach with the material. Worth a listen as a curiosity though!

Did they ever produce any (longer) versions of the tracks? I just loved "Raven" and "Dr. & Prof." but they are too short. (like all Parsons - I just want MORE) Cry

I don't know if you've checked it already but if anyone else is still curious about this follow up by Eric Woolfson:

  http://www.poe-cd.com - http://www.poe-cd.com

But, as Norm Cash warned, this is not Prog at all, but if you like, or at least stand stage musicals it's worth a try.

Anyway, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination.... I love that album, I love that band.

I couldn't get into 'Tell-Tale Heart' with vocals by Arthur Brown at first, but once I got into his Crazy World I've enjoyed his performance and what a talented guy Arthur Brown is!
