I was wondering who the best keyboard player is. Everybody is always voting on guitarests and singers, but never the keys. Organ, piano, synth, ect. it all counts.

No, that's not true. When you use the search function you find many keyboard threads. Some threads:

Nevertheless, my favourite keyboard players:
Eddie Jobson, Keith Emerson, Tony Banks, Rick Wakeman, Dave Stewart.

Jan Hammer, Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman are the best in terms of overall technicality, style and influence.

Kieth Emerson was more essential to ELPs sound then other keyboardists are to their bands.
They dont even have a bass player AND a guitarist (although Greg counts as both ) and they still make as full a sound as anyone else
For solo sound tho id say Wakeman, Moraz, or Rudess

I love both Emerson and Wakeman, though I have a slight preference for the former. PF's Rick Wright may not be on the same technical level as these two, but he is indispensable for the band's sound, as well as being quite remarkable as a songwriter. Other greats are Peter Bardens, Dave Stewart, David Sinclair, and obviously Tony Banks and Jon Lord. I also agree with who mentioned Ray Manzarek and Steve Winwood - who's also one of the best voices in rock.

Emerson by a fair way for me, master of every keyboard instrument.
Moraz, Bardens, Wakeman and Thijs Van Leer after that.
But from <insert controversial genre>, Jon Lord
Oh, and you can't forget Geddy Lee!

Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Tony Banks are my big 3
but IMO, Emerson is miles ahead of Wakeman and Banks. Emerson was one of the only keyboard players to be the frontman of his band, and he definitely was in ELP. The guy is also a monster player. Anyone who has seen the piano improvisations at the California Jam in 1974 knows that Keith Emerson cannot be beat. I'm going to see him this June at B.B. King's in NYC and I can't wait.

To many to decide...Emerson, Wakeman, Minnear, Jobson all fantastic...
The more I hear Clive Nolan the more I am inclined to believe he is truly great. Outstanding musical senses.
Underrated player: Steve Walsh
Non-Prog: If you aren't famiar with jazz/blues organist Jimmy Smith you need to be. He's was the best I've ever heard. Passed away last year.

Ditto...Not just for the playing itself but also for the amt of output, who he's played with, songwriting & producing skills, and the musical choices he makes when he's playing (especially live)...
Like Jon Lord a lot too, he really knows how to stay within himself (no that's not a knock!)...Derek Sherinian sounds to me like someone who can do it all & just hasn't had enough time yet to actually do it. Very impressive skills...Players such as Chick Corea, T Lavitz (Dregs) & Art Tatum are in their own league...
