Here's what I got:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111) in /home/www/lcr1350h/dans_incs/connect.inc.php on line 6
Could not connect to database - please try again later.

Not very exciting.

Be assured I'm f***ed off by this, this is no way to run a radio station which relies on weblisteners. I'm kicking arse this end and hope problems sorted by the time of my next show 8pm (GMT) next Thursday night.

Have a heart Dick. Cutting edge technology often breaks down. Please don't kick too many bottoms. Programmers are human too.

Bob

This has been a problem in the past, which I hoped had gone away with the installation of new PC dedicated to the job - hence the frustration with the problem reappearing after 18 months. We like listeners - and besides if the web is down, then there is only a crappy AM local transmission, of which we ask "Who listens to that nowadays?". The future is digital broadcasting, of which webcasting is one important means especially when anybody around the world can download. After Tony's praise - thanks Tony for the kind words - and recommendation, it is annoying that somebody who made the effort to check us out failed because of technical problems. However, in defence of our management, the Station manager response today is:

(QUOTE)

Getting quite puzzled by this...I have tested the webcast on multiple computers now and it seems to be working fine. The only explanations i can think are that either the webcast already had reached the finite limit of the number of listeners it can support at once (unsure of the exact number, but presumably (UNIVERSITY) computing services don't grant us unlimited bandwidth) or a problem at the listeners end. If the latter is the case and it's due to their computer blocking certain scripting languages, they can try the second link on the listen live page which should open away from the website.

Not entirely sure what to suggest otherwise, but i'll keep monitoring the situation

Pete

(END OF QUOTE)

It has also been suggested that listeners may like to retry the link, or if the listener is using an Apple, then there might be a minor resolvable problem with the use of Windows software to hear the stream.

Should have added that I have a MD recording of last night's show, and after some minor editing, conversion into MP3 format, it will be transmitter as a stream when we aren't broadcasting live, i.e. during the early hours.  Information will be provided when sorted.

I couldnt log on originally, remember I alerted you to this Dick. The only way I could get "in" was to use Google to search for LCR and got onto a page on the general LCR website. Then had to alter the page address and managed to reach the Home Page. Then got to the webcast link.

Alternatively,I could just have been lucky....

Great show by the way!

Good, thanks for that

My other US-based listener just posted this in -:

Hey, speaking of MilesDavis, how weird about him being inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

I hadn't seen if his lifeless corpse staggered onstage at the ceremony and told them all to f*** off (it's probably been censored in the interest of national security), but I put the odds at about 50/50.

I'm still listening...

Vocalist on Tempest track is Mark Clarke, I believe. He was bass player in Colosseum and sings the 'why don't we listen to the voices in our heart' section in Uriah Heep's 'The Wizard' (he was in them for a time). But you doubtless knew all that anyway, Dick!

Cheers. That was my guess - liner notes on CD seem to lack such details.

Actually Tony, Timothy doesn`t have time to howl at the moon. Being a single parent of a 17 year old son who I have raised on my own since he was 18 months old plus holding down a full time job leaves me little free time.

Yes .were close and hopefully close to his liberation. Still could not sway him towards prog. His "music" is Korn, Beastie Boys, Third eye blind. Hopefully he will thank me for the exposure to the world`s best music someday. As for mental jousting I learned to pick the battles which were really important and bought him a good set of Sennheiser headphones. What they want provides great leverage for what you want. It also spurs them on to find ways to earn their "own $$$".

Guys

Putting the last show of the term together for Thursday night- theme is covers, and the more obscure the better. Already have covers scheduled by

Caveman Hughscore

Keith Tippett Group

Theo Travis Quintet

Kevin Gilbert

Glueleg or Wood

Wayne Krantz

Bloomfield, Hammond & Dr John.

but can you guess  what these folk are covering?

In addition new jazz from Praxis and Electrocution 250 (I think the 250 refers to BPM the band typically employ???) but that bit is far from complete.

So a handful of suggestions would be welcomed.

Was going to say, "as usual" but the last 9 weeks have been far from usual. Anyway 8pm GMT, 3pm EST

I take it from the lack of "comments" Tony R, more to your idea of a radio show or what??

No he lives in a few miles outside Canterbury on the English coast - even in the local telephone directory, (that's why I'm not naming the town),  guy lacks any pretentions. Excellent base for Hugh to do Hugh Hopper Band and Soft MAchine Legacy trips into mainland Europe.

The Hughscore albums are recorded at long distance. Hugh stays at home in Kent, Caveman Hughscore stay in Oregon.

No show next week but I hope to have something on the sustain which should be more for hometime in the USA - keep all informed

Is this plan cunning - won't haven't any less?

Thanks for coming back TR - and thanks everybody else for tuning in. I hope most if not all music was enjoyed. More in the weeks to come.

I haven't been able to tune in I'm afraid. The streamer comes up OK, but nothing plays. The "if you have problems try clicking here" link appears to be dead.

Both of the radio shows I have listened to have been great. As an added bonus Dick Heath provides info on the music he is playing which puts it in perspective. You can`t help but learn some new background .It is a nice change to just sit back and absorb some good music. So give yourself a rest, no lists to look through,no decisions to make, just good music. I vote yes.

PC Dick. I've tried a couple of PCs in the house, both with Media player on them OK. I'm wondering if it could be a firewall issue, or perhaps due to the fact that I connect through a router.
