To the web overlords.....

Is there any possibility of "Location" being added to the Memberlist table, along with an option to order the list by this field?

It'd be a quick and easy way to let users see where people are from, and how many fellow PA users one might have close by.

(My apologies if this has been suggested before. I did a quick search by topic and didn't find any previous posts relating to this idea)

Empathy

I'm aware of the Map (I'm on it too!), but since Location is one of the registration parameters, I thought that making it available on the Memberlist table would provide a quick and easy way for PA users to grab this info for all PA users. Remember, the map only includes those who have taken the time to sign up for it.

Before anyone mentions it, yes I am aware that not everyone provides their true location info, and that some might provide an area, city, or town rather than a country. I still think it'd be a useful tool.

However, this is just a suggestion, and if the web preople feel that its not appropriate for any reason, that's fine!

Of course I meant "web people" not preople.

I really should use that spell check button more often.

Ah. In that case, I definitely see the benefit.

Vompatti

You can search by country by going first to the alphabetical list, then click an artist's country rather than their name. This will bring up a full list of all artists from that country.

I can suggest it to Max no problem.

It would be cool if you could search for members by location but I guess it wouldnt be much use for our USA members  searching for other American sas,no doubt, that would provide too many pages of usernames. Maybe our American friends should be able to register which State they live in as opposed to the country.

Norm, what are the malts in your signature? I think I recognize Glenmorangie, but am not sure about the others. is one of them Talisker?

TonyR,

Thanks for putting my suggestion forward. I understand the limitations of the Location info, but at the moment you can order the list by Star rating - I'm not entirely sure how useful that is, but it must be to someone.

By the way, nice job on identifying those malts!

That's really nice but when I tried to add myself and selected that I was outside USA, it wouldn't add me because it kept asking for my 5 digit US postcode.

Hmmm.....sort of. I wouldn't want to overcomplicated things, but if users were to enter both country and town/city/state, it'd work better for listing if they specify the country first. In other words:

Wales, Cardiff

Scotland, Glasgow

United States, Michigan

etc.

That way, when listed alphabetically you'd have everyone grouped first by country, then by local area.

I work with spreadsheets far too much

Anyway, like I said, if this facility were to be made available, I wouldn't suddenly start asking people to change their details, or to enter things in a certain way. Just let things run as they do at present and work with what we have. Users are entitle to privacy if they desire.

You know, just checking out my own settings, it looks as if new users can only select from a drop-down listings of countries. So it looks as if there's no worries about individuals using different formats.

Hmm, maybe something broke (it is a Beta). There's plenty of people on that map outside the U.S. though, so it's gotta be possible somehow.

Location of PA members would be a fine thing.

However, the question of possibility to search bands by their country was raised many months ago (also by myself and some others ) to no avail so far. Indeed it is the other way around that is possible to track country of bands by the way you explained above.

But:

let say I want to find out is there any band from Kazakhstan. In this case I would need to scroll all the alphabetical listings of ALL bands hoping to see one from Kazakhstan. The simpler way would be to add something like INDEX of country names, like there is for band names. In that case I would simply click on "K" and see immediately if Kazakhstan is represented.

Or maybe I am asking too much

That's exactly what I was hoping for.
