them with rush.

"Judge not this race by it's empty remains"
Genesis should be judged for everything they did from Trespass to W&W, judging them for ABACRAP or Invisible Touch would not only be absurd but inapropiate for this site, because those are not Prog' albums, and IMO is not Genesis, because three and later two out of 5 members doesn't represent the band.
Do you judge Yes for Close to the Edge or for Big Generator?
Rush IMO never released an album near the stature of Foxtrot or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Iván
BTW: Genesis has not been crap for the lasyt 9 years, GENESIS DOESN'T OFFICIALLY EXIST SINCE SEPTEMBER 2, 1997.
IMO GENESIS DOESN'T EXIST SINCE NOVEMBER 1977 WHEN THEY RELEASED THE BUTCHERED SECONDS OUT.

I voted for Rush, as I vastly prefer them to Genesis. In fact, as I have said on several occasions, I've never been a big Genesis fan, though SEBTP is one of my all-time favourite albums. On the other hand, Genesis have undoubtedly been much more influential in the world of prog rock. Still, it's Rush for me, I'm afraid.

Though I love Genesis, Rush has been around far longer, released more
material, and have been consistently better IMO. Genesis hasn't really
released a decent album since Wind and Wuthering in '77, whereas Rush
has put out several decent or very good releases in the past twenty
years.

a big...pffff to that...
since we are a progressive forum.... anything Genesis did past W&W
is for the poparchives... and anything past Permanent Waves should be
in AORarchives...
Why was Counterparts so heralded upon it's release... because Rush fans
(I was one at the time) wanted a return to their earlier sound.
Rush in the 80's is nothing to crow over... even their 90's stuff is ok
at best.
Genesis on any and all counts on progressive terms....

Easy, Genesis masterpieces SEBTP, Foxtrot, Trespass, ATOTT, Peter gabriel, Steve Hackett!!!! (eventhough love Duke), epics Supper's ready, Firth of Fifth, The Musical box, among others.
Rush, good musicianship Neil peart drumming and Lifeson's guitar. Nice instrumentals YYZ, La villa strangiato, etc. Geddy Lee....great bass playing, but that feminine childish voice annoys me. need to turn the sound system off when the witch starts singing. because of this I choose genesis, I enjoy listening to them. The witch singing simply a torture!!!

70s rush v. 70s genesis isn't the poll. Genesis may beat Rush with their 70s works but as a whole Rush is much more solid. 70s and 80s Rush was magnificent, 90s/00s not quite as good but still solid. Genesis was terrible after the 70s. Rush wins by 2 decades.

Rush is more consistant then Genesis but When Genesis is on theres no
beating them. Rush is more more about the virtuoso and solo ability of
the players while Genesis is more about the blending of the instuments,
expecially guitar and keyboards and the vocals. Very hard to
compare.....

Interesting to see Rush winning over Genesis here. No wonder who wins poll Best Canadien band....
I was trying to figure out what these two bands have in common, and finally realised that both of them released 7 great albums each over 8 years period. And both degraded afterwards with no turning back. Full stop.
Otherwise these two are so different that could be considered being from different planets.
And while Rush to me is simply great band, Genesis is probably most important band in prog music in general, and I love thier music more. So I vote for Genesis.

They're two entirely different bands with entirely different agendas.
Genesis went back in time to a sort of medieval sound, and always had an element of dark synicism in it. RUSH went forward in time to a dark and scary future where the human race hadn't rid itself of evils.
Genesis had a more folksy/symphonic sound. RUSH had a more psychedelic/metal sound.
To compare the two is impossible. They were both revolutionaries in the area of prog-rock and both deserve equal praise.

Rush was one of the two bands along with Dream Theater that opened the doors to the prog world for me I've been a fan for years now. Great Songs, great musicianship and an excellent live performers.
Genesis is also excellent SEBTP is one of my favorite albums in recent years along with Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and the The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway all good albums.

I can't understand how people manages to vote several times, this new system only allows one vote per member but just looking at the numbers is easy to find this poll is flawed, because there are not 273 active members in Prog Archives.
Statistically this results are impossible in this forum, Genesis is by far the most popular band, the only one that has 4 albums in the top 10 but still Rush is winning.
And no Raffaella won't say anything about your choice, everybody is entitled to his/her taste but you have a warning ........
