Just come back from my In-Laws and had to suffer the usual 945 holiday pics from a recent vacation in Florida. One of the themes running through these snaps is: What a set of fat bloaters you Americans are!!! Every beach photo has some fat redneck dad with his piggy redneck wife and litter of bouncing young porkers. I mean you lot are gross,and should be ashamed of your porcine appearance!
This fat Yank is trying to eat the biggest hotdog I've ever seen!!! -------------

Of course not all Americans are fat but there definitely exists a specific kind of American obesity that you don't see anywhere else in the world. Or at least,you didn't until the slavering beast of American popular cultural emperialism (try saying that after a few pints! I like Americans,I really do. It's America I can't stand. But then again, I can stand very few things. It makes my life very difficult. And parts of this post might conceivably be meant as a joke and should perhaps not be taken at face value. A recent survey here in Norway revealed that it's now the norm to be overweight. Junk food and tv are chiefly to blame. It's amazing our bodies can take this treatment! Well,it can't entirely since diabetes is increasing rapidly. ------------- Odi profanum vulgus et arceo. |

I had slowly turned into a tub of lard over the last couple of years so I went on a diet starting a few months ago and now I've lost 17 kilos and have only 4-5 left before I once more have my ideal weight. It's a weight off my mind. (Groan!)------------- Odi profanum vulgus et arceo. |

Not all Americans are tubs-of-lard. I actually weigh a pitiful 120 pounds, and I'm five feet 11 inches. (for you Metric guys out there, that's, er, 1.524 meters and 4.331 centimeters; 120 pounds [not the money kind!] is 54.431 kilograms) Man, do I love that unit converter my dad downloaded! |

I weighed about 54 kilos too when I was your age,you impertinent little whippersnapper! People kept telling me I had to eat more because I was so painfully thin. It's very often the way when you're young. You can cram all manner of junk food in you and never gain a pound/kilo but then,usually sometime in your 20's,you realise that parts of you that shouldn't, have certainly started protruding alarmingly and you step on the scales and like many,many before you utter the immortal words: "These scales must be faulty!" But alas no,they are dead accurate and you have then been initiated into true adulthood: Commencing the war against the waistline spread which you are tragically,and irrevocably,destined to lose. Well I did put 15-20 lbs on after I quit smoking but I think that was just filling out to where I supposed to. But if I lived in country that considered squid a snack food I am sure I would lose it in no time.

Fat Americans sue fast food firms
More than half of all adult Americans are overweight A group of overweight Americans have sued several US fast food giants accusing them of knowingly serving meals that cause obesity and disease.
"The fast-food industry has wrecked my life," Caesar Barbar, one of plaintiffs, told the New York Post. Mr Barbar - a 57-year-old maintenance supervisor who weighs almost 125 kilograms (275 pounds) - said he regularly ate fast food until 1996, when a doctor warned his diet could potentially kill him. Mr Barbar said he had already had two heart attacks and has been suffering from diabetes. 'Bad eating habits' "I always thought it was good for you. I never thought there was anything wrong with it," he said. A recent assessment of obesity in the US found that more than a half of all adult Americans were overweight. About 54 million adults were classified as obese - that is people who are about 15 kilos or more over the healthy norm based on height - and hundreds of thousands of deaths each year were attributed to obesity-related diseases. Health groups say one of the biggest culprits for this growing epidemic is junk food, and that the best time to break the cycle between obesity and bad eating habits is when people are young. Fast food companies - such as McDonald's and Burger King - are currently participating in a campaign urging young Americans to eat a healthier diet. A spokesman for a restaurant industry group has ridiculed the legal action. "He must be aware that fully two-thirds of all foods consumed in America are consumed in people's homes. Is he proposing that we sue America's moms?" John Doyle of the Center for Consumer Freedom told ABC News. -------------

yeah..I do an hour of stairmaster/ day , work at a physically rigorous job , sit-ups and lift some weights here and there as well and I am STILL a bit meaty... I just love food too much and have an addiction to chocolate. |
