Over the years I've heard many people lauding many of Floyd's album but it seems to me that Meddle has slipped between the cracks of popular perception. In many ways it could be seen as the band's 'Revolver' in that much of what became the classic ground breaking Floyd sound had it's first outing here. Over and above such standout tracks as 'One Of These Days' (truly one of the best opening tracks of ANY album IMO) and 'Fearless' you have the mighty 'Echoes' that to my ears has elements of both 'Dark Side..' and 'Wish You..' woven into the fabric of the tune. Gilmour has described Meddle as the album on which '..we first got our focus' and I truly believe that this release forms the true blueprint that all the other albums (including the later non-Roger releases maybe) draws inspiration from. I believe that this is a great, great album that deserves as much attention as it's more famous cousins.
Does anybody have any views about this?

| This cd is one of my favorite cd's of all time, and probably in my top four or five pink floyd cds. I think its extremely underrated and is just a riveting piece of magic. The whole band plays well, the vocals are great, and i'd buy the CD just for Echoes, an amazing song. |

Great album! I'd rather listern to Meddle than DSOTM. 'A pillow of winds' is a lovely song. 'San Tropez' is also excellent, and there's no faulting 'Echoes' and 'One of these days' ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

I've always liked this album... Echoes is wonderful.. .altho I do like the live version on the Pompeii video better... I'm in an Animals frame of mind this month tho.... can't get enough of "Dogs" ------------- THIS IS ELP

I agree threefates that the 'Pompeii' version is better although it's a shame they split it into two parts. Wonderful video by the way. This is a very good and under rated album in my opinion. All previous albums are very under rated as well. But I think "One of these days" and Echoes" is worth the price alone. The middle songs are okay, except for the one with the dog, I don't even remember cause its my all time least favorite track and is the only track I ever skip out of the 15 or 16 floyd cds I have. Kudos for making this post though |

Yes, I agree on Gilmour on that. Their previous albums, while not excempted of musical geneius, were mainly exploratory. "Meddle" signals the maturation of something that had been in progress until then: the PF sound! "Echoes" is one of my all-time favourite prog suites. Languid and melancholy, yet not tiring: stangely, there's always an air of irresistible excitement in it... at least, that's how I feel it. Regards. |

A Fantastic Record....Good beginning and what an end!!!, but there is something about this album that made me rated it 4 stars...maybe the fillers like San Tropez and Seamus, I don't know...I don't enjoy those tracks at all... But it's a classic and as I wrote in my review this is an album to enjoy with eyes closed and let your imagination fly.... ------------- Democracy=A form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people...

Couldn't agree more! Dogs is my top Floyd song of all time, and Animals my top Floyd album
Classic! Its not that I'm prog obsessed or anything but last night I dreamt that Pink Floyd were playing in my back garden. But, my back garden was the grounds to a huge mansion, all shrouded in early morning mist. Floyd were set up on the shores of a lake, and Dave Gilmour was giving his plectrums away to me and my girlfriend. Is that normal?? Thanks guys and girls. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be leaping into the void on this one. I'm really glad that most agree that Meddle is an excellent album. I also think that 'Seamus' is a weak track but (and I'm sorry to cross threads here), I suppose it is additional proof that Floyd did have a sense of humour Incidentally, I saw the band 'Low' perform 'Fearless' on their last tour and they did a really good job of it too. The crowd however didn't seem to know the track at all. Alan Sparhawk, the bands songer/guitarists stared back at them after some sparse applause and said 'Well, obviously not a lot of 'Floyd fans here tonight.' Fantastic... Animals is another underrated album in the PF catalogue (the tour did give us the spitting incident that gave Roger Waters the theme for the next record) but I'm not sure if it is as important in the development of their sound as Meddle. But hey, if you have another opinion/theory, I'd love to hear it.

| Particularly with reference to the untimely death of John Peel on Tuesday, it is worth noting that the chanting You'll never walk alone at the end of Fearless was by the fans at the Kop End of the Liverpool Football Club - Peel's favourite team - I've long believed that was selected by Floyd because of Peel. |

i dont understand. it seems as if you're saying it doesnt get enough recognition. maybe in the eyes of pop music, dark side, wish and the wall are about the only albums that get a mention. but in the eyes of hardcore pink floyd fans and us progheads, it is one of the most important albums out there and gets plenty enough attention. look at the reviews. it is also in the top 20 list on the homepage. ------------- The Worthless Recluse

Right now its my favorite PF album also... Actually I think its very important in the scheme of things (being PF's legacy). DSOTM was wonderful, but I think Animals solidified their mark on the idea of concept albums... no one was better at it than them... Don't worry BW... I have that same dream all the time, altho David is giving me something completely different... ------------- THIS IS ELP

You are right in that many Floyd fans know and love this album and aknowledge the value it has in the development of their sound but in the wider perception of what PF actually is (ie. the general public), Meddle is hugely overlooked. Most people think that 'Dark Side..' was Floyd's FIRST album for god's sake!! They should teach the history of Pink Floyd in schools
