On A Change of Seasons, Dream Theater do covers of songs by Elton John, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.

My question is Which artist do you think they do the best? (I left out the Big Medley)

I go with The Zepppelin songs. I think Perfect Strangers was an abortion. The keyboard in the beginning and the guitar solo with no feeling (just shredding all over the place, not at all close to the original) were terrible. The Elton John covers were OK But for me the cherry on the cake were the Zeppelin covers.

I don't remember, I never listen to them.

On a side note, I don't see why the reviews I read here mark this album down because of the "additional seasonings." They are totally negligible.

I didnīt put in the Big medley mainly because of the horrible version of Carry on Wayward son.

On a side note- Yngwie Malmsteen has a covers album called Inspiration. He does Anthem-Rush, I the dead of night-UK and an excellent version of Carry on Wayward sonClap

Having never heard Perfect Strangers I dont know wether it is a poor cover or not, but it is my favourit of the four extras on their. I just wish they put that Yes medley with Steve Howe on, the run through of Wurm on 5 Years In A Live Time DVD is impressive.

You should here Michael Angelo Batio's cover of Deep Purple. I cant remember if it was Burn or Fireball, but it took me 2 listens to figure out that it was a Deep Purple cover. I think he played the entire song in the first 5 seconds. Talk about emotionless shredding . I thought to myself "Thats why you practice other things than just speed exercises"

Apparently Dream Theater have now covered the entire Made in Japan-Deep Purple. Petrucci is great so I look forward to hearing his take on the Child in Time solo. I just hope he doesnīt shred all over the place. As for Labrie singing Child in Time and hitting those high notes.... Iīm a bit sceptical.

Itīs like someone else on the board mentoned, Who wants a copy of the Mona Lisa?

I went with Purple.I like the Zep medley too but out of all the covers on '...Seasons' I found the DP one to be most memorable. And I hated the Elton John covers. I'll never understand why they felt the need to include those.

Since when did they cover Dark Side??? I have to hear that.

but i thought that the number of the beast covers were pretty bad, Labrie clearly doesnt know the lyrics to a few of the songs

but that Zeppelin medley is badass

All three are quite good, but I'd go with "Perfect Strangers", which BTW sounds a lot like the original.
